Was just wondering if anyone had any advice about race status, strategy and lead out men.
I am new here, but I did do a search, and while I found some useful information about my questions, I didn't find certain information about others.
Just a bit of info as well, I purely sim everything, so I don't know if any of this makes that much of a difference or not but if it does I would like to know.
For instance, for sprints, is only one lead out man needed? Or do you want a bunch (if they have the stats)?
How exactly does using the lead out man for mountain stages work? Say for instance, I have a bunch of climbers, would they be good lead out men for my leader on the climbs? Or is lead out man ONLY for sprinters.
As far as status goes, what exactly is the difference between free, and team mate? I know free can also be designated to be a team mate in the race strategy, so what is the difference between the two, status and strategy?
I'm just wondering because sometimes setting my better riders on free, and take risks, seems to do better then setting them as team mates for my leader. Does setting a climber up as a team mate, and having him as a lead out man for my leader on mountain stages do anything at all?
If you have one leader, and 8 team mates, do they all help him during the race regardless of what strategy you give them?
dunno about the last one if your simulating everything. sorta like trying to see if the fridge light goes out when you shut the door. if you are actually racing yourself then its certainly helpful to use all your possible help. particularly if you hold the leaders jersey.

i only have 1 but different people use different techniques, you can do it McEwen style, just grab someone else wheel, or build a train, the ways to build one are explained all over the forum

You only need leadout men for sprints. Riders an be used as domestiques in the mountains, f.e. doing relay's with you leader on their wheel.

Free means he will not work for anyone, he will ride his own race, perfect real-life example was Ullrich and Vinokourov, and team-mate will protect his leader and do any other things you tell him to do
