Cape Argus Cycle Tour Discussion
mb2612
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/2012%20Routes/capeargus.png

12 teams are here for the Cape Argus Cycle Tour, and this is going to be a hotly contested race, even if Impey's absence is truly bizarre.

Bianchi have brought out the big guns today, with Ciolek for the sprints, and Claeys and Rabon for the hills, while Red Bull will challenge them with Sonnery leading the way. Gasparotto is also a threat, but this preview is pretty pointless, as Bellis will no doubt win.

Interestingly despite being rated flat, pcm is backing the hilly riders as leaders today, not sure what that means but it may well make the race more exciting.

If the puncheurs turns out to be leaders, it is very interesting for my team, as Rovira has a decent sprint to be a puncheur. I could at least hope Pfft

If it comes to a bunch sprint, hopefully Haedo can do well, as his hilly stat should help him surviving the hills. But our biggest goal for this race is no doubt to be in the breakaway!

I will do a guess based upon the rest of the season and say that Bellis will win :-p Seems like he simply shows up at a race and then wins it. No reason to race, he can just go to the top of the podium :-p

SportingNonsense
A flat race that may suit puncheurs. I know of a rider who likes that sort of scenario Pfft

Bellis to win, Claeys for a podium.

This race has breakaway win written all over it for me... either from the BotD or from a late move by a punchy rider or two.

If not I rather fancy Daniele Bennati to 'upset' the god like Jonny Bellis.

As for not bringing Impey, I confess it was probably a mistake. I am trying to save him for HC races and targetted ones like Tour of Britain (though how an earth anyone is gonna beat Bellis there I don't know!) and the Asian races.

Though lets be honest bumpy but flat rated South African race with a sprinter who climbs hills well from South Africa? *face palm*

When will the report be out? Just want to be finished with Bellis winning, so that we soon can see someone else doing it ;-)

Surely I'm hoping for a bunch sprint here.
I really hope the hills won't have too narrow streets, then there should not be too much trouble for Bennati to stay in the pack if his positioning got better.

Apart from my own expectations, this could end in many different ways as Smowz pointed out. I fear a late effort by some strong guys makes it.

Lindgren --> Aistrup --> Brammeier and Van Hummel sprints to wictory Wink

Or we have a bigger chanche to win if we get in a breakaway...

Considering that the BoTD won last year, it could happen again ;-)

Yeah, sorry for not mentioning Bennati, I didn't notice he was in the race until half way through.

This race is much harder than it looks, due to it being the first race I made and hence half the hills are at 13/14%

Interestingly, the hilly field is pretty weak here, which made for a truly epic race.

Sounds more and more like a win for Bellis Pfft

But hopefully that also means we will see an attacking race, I'm definitely looking forward to it, though, I don't expect much from it, result wise.

Another to add to the collection of weird ones.....the PUMA boys especially.

Well, did not expect anything like that!

Don't know what half the teams were playing at, but Sambris was so strong to pick up the win.

What a fantastic race and well told too! Congratulations to Hollister!

The actual fuck was that Frown.

I'm trying to figure out how a 65 sprinter, who took the last 5km for his account, led out the sprint for a 76(?) sprinter, but still completely blasted him away. He even took close to all hills on him and made the jump solo, while Gasparotto was in a duo.

And then the fact again that the riders joining the break midrace make it.

Nontheless, a great report.

Nice to see McConnell in his Australian NC-shirt in the break.. didn't expected anything, so I'm pleased with the results anyway... nice race.

Murakami put in a great ride. I feel he rode above his level on that one! 5th is an acceptable result.

Wow, that was a great race to read, great report mb2612!

And what a race for us. First, Viennet gets in the breakaway, then Nordhaug joins him, following Murakami's clever move. And finally, Rovira joins them all, following Puma's unexpected move.

I expected literally nothing from this race, and we ended up with 2 men on the podium, outstanding result for our team! Also, congratulations to Sambris and Hollister. He had an amazing job, and after all the work he did on the hills, he was no doubt a deserved winner.

I enjoyed the report, even if the result for Jayco Red Bull was underwhelming.

Utter failure really from us and teams like Bianchi to help Rapha Condor bring back the break. I guess understandable given Bellis domination of the recent stage race, but I will be having words with the DS in charge of the team here.

But again very enjoyable race report, and congrats to the winner this race always looked like a breakaway win to me - was the finish slightly uphill?
