After a breakaway surprised the cobbled favourites in the opening Flanders classic, it was service as normal in the UK when Tom Boonen added to his palmares at the East Midlands Cicle Classic. This was his first for his new team Nestle Cycling.
Tommake may well be eager to try and get to the top step of the podium here after being runner up three years running, his two man game wins here now a distant memory.
His big rivals historically speaking are 2010 winner Fabian Cancellara (Carmuese) and 2011 winner Alessandro Ballan (Sony Ericsson). Boonan will also be wary as ever of the up and coming threat of Kiwi sensation Sam Bewley.
We have other riders who will be eager to put thus far disappointing cobbled seasons behind them, particularly Bacardi, Festina and Spyker pairs Burghardt/Steegmans, Steurs/Pozzato and Gusev/Devolder. Watch out too for Webeffects colourful jersey on the shoulders of Baugnies.
Fancy an outside bet?, why not plump for Ctour's finest cobbler in Pieter Vanspeybrouck part of the superstrong on cobbles Bpost outfit who along with the none too shabby Koppert Cycling team make a formidable Wildcard duo. Or alternatively could lightening strike twice with Stijn Joseph the winner of the Omloop Het Volk?
The key action as ever will be in the dual ascents of the cobbled Kemmelberg climb, the long flat run can sometimes cause a regrouping or if windy can tear things apart.

How'd you manage to misspell Boonen but manage to spell Vanspeybrouck correctly?

After the disappointing results so far, i'd be happy with a top 10.

I never played this race in PCM11, so I just hope it`s better solved than in PCM10, where the sprinters didn`t start the sprint early enough.
But pretty sure it will work out in 11. |

At least as far as I've experienced, it works much better in PCM11.
Should be an exciting race. Looking forward to it.

Good job you only loaned him then, rather than anything permanent

Well that was unexpected. Vanspeybrouck just seriously redeemed himself in my eyes.
