I'm currently going through my first year in career mode (opted to do single stages before, and without a decent tutorial, career mode has so far been quite daunting), and I was hoping that someone would be able to point me in the right direction of ideal team compositions.
I'm currently looking at events and placing a minimum of six riders into races, a leader and deputy leader, a sprinter and lead out, as well as two helpers with various attributes depending on the skill-set required for the race in question, is this an ideal way of deciding which members of your team go to each race or am I doing something wrong by picking my riders this way?
Any help is greatly appreciated, just trying to get my head around everything.
It depends on what sort of event you are entering and the goals that you have set yourself or that your sponsors have set you. Generally I find it is best to choose exactly what you want from a race and then to tailor your team around that. If you are looking for stage wins, then choose a strong lead-out train and build your team around the sprinter. If you are after GC then build your team with the goal of perofmring well in the hills and mountains, as well as domestiques who can drag breakaways back in without having to use up your best two or three riders.
It also depends on how much depth of talent your team has. If you play a smaller team then you aren't going to have too many leaders so you will have to spread them around. If you are playing one of the best teams, like Leopard-Trek then you can afford to have some of your second-string leaders taking a shot at GC whenever you are building around your sprinter. For instance if you are building a lead-out around Bennati, you can have Gerdemann have a go at GC without too much support.
