Long title, but it describes it pretty good. I am having a huge trouble in sprints. If you look away from the fact that my sprint train simply stops for 2-3 seconds on every single stage for no reason what so ever, there's another problem.
Everytime I try to get my sprinter on another sprinters wheel (because my trains are shit) he might sit on his wheel for 2 seconds if I'm lucky. I was once perfectly positioned on a rider wheel, but suddenly four(!) riders came and suddenly just shoved me away. I tried to get back on the wheel, but it didn't work, not on any of them. Therefor I'm wondering if there's a stat or something that determines how much a wuss your riders are?
I should point out that I had allready set him to agressive earlier and there wasn't a problem with his effort level.
I really wish they removed this "feature" where the AI can simply do as they please and you have no chance at retaliating.

In my experience, it mostly happens when your rider has to leave a gap to the rider he's following - because he's blocked or because he's exhausted. Somewhat realistic I think. But as Lachi said, if you have a decent sprinter and set him on 99%, it shouldn't happen often.
And by the way, you can also use this to your own advance. If you're in a good position, you are sometimes able to slip in an existing sprint train.
My sprinter is Guardini and he has 78 in both SP and ACC so he's not a bad sprinter at all.
The big problem is that during a sprint, there's my train, which usually stops as I mentioned, and another train composed of every single sprinter in the race. It's usually a line of maybe 5-6 sprinters and there's no point in me being in the back.
I'm Team Sky in my third season. I picked up Cavendish who is an amazing sprinter, but I also have Ben Swift, a decent sprinter. At the end of a train I have my second best sprinter (swift), then my best sprinter (Cav). I have my lead out guy sprint around 2km to go, then I send my main sprinter away around 1.5 or even 1 depending on where my competition are.
I generally use a long train if I can get away with it, and because Sky are a good team, I can generally do this. The AI characters get wise to me every now and then, so I have to send 4 away from the pack at around 4-5 km to go. If you have your lead out man on the "dot" at 99 and if he's got a good flat stat then you should be okay. I try and get my train together near the front of the pelaton inside the last 10km as a general rule.
On the stages which are really long its harder to get the whole train together. I would have my leadout guy sitting behind the best sprinter in the pelaton. I will pause the game to find him within the last 18km. Then I'll attack after he attacks with my main sprinter.
With a 78 sprinter its hard to beat the better guys. Try and get ur second best sprinter to lead him out, that might work?
