Today, I was playing the Tour de Romandie in career mode. On the last stage, Cancellara was in the leaders jersey with about a minute down to his competitors in the GC, and since the profile was well suited for Cancellara, I just had to keep the peloton together for the stage. An early breakaway went away with 4 riders, who were about 8 minutes behind Cancellara in the GC. No real danger there, so I let them go, and kept them at about 4 minutes in front of the peloton.
Later on the stage, Nicki Sørensen from Saxo Bank attacked. I decided to let him get away, because he was Danish, so I set down the pace in the pack, until he catched the riders in E1. Then, I set up the pace again, but I decided not to catch the breakaway, but just keep them at a gap of 3-4 minutes. This way, Sørensen would be able to get some points from the stage win for Denmark in the rankings, and the riders in the pack wouldn't fight for the stage win.
Have you ever decided to help a rider, who was not a part of your team? |

Never.
I like when some of my favourite riders win or also some Germans have big success like Martens in Amstel Gold race with a mid stage attack.
But I never help them, I ride as good as I think I can do and then I don`t care if I destroy their dreams, although I like them in real.

This is a point I never experienced, but I might consider it if one of my team riders would win and I have just the National team.
But probably I would still try to win as it is my success then like my 2011 Worlds win with Wegmann. |

+2 Its just a game, but if a Canadian can win a stage I will usually try to get him to win, but its pretty hard to do, maybe if I was Spanish or something it would be easier, although I probably wouldn't do it then either.

I actually do, i will happily pull a group along alone even if im the weakest guy, just to gain time i will need later.
Classic example ... Chavnel at the TDF, Modane-Huez
Attacked over top of climb w. Sanchez and Nibali.
Full group - Chavanel, Sanchez, Nibali, Hesjedal, Rolland.
I pulled all the way from the top of the Galibier to 4-5km to go ... killed Chavanel, but gained on all my rivals, whilst Nibali took the yellow thanks to the gap i made

I'm usually do let someone else win when my team don't need a victory. For example when my rider in leader's jersey coming to finish of hard mountain stage with some guy who isn't his rival to seconds I let him win with my rider finishes second. But there are times when that rider just attacks and don't work with my guy. Then I never let him win

I don't chase breakaways. I have enough sprint finishes irl so I avoid them as much as I can in the game. I also put a hard pace if a leader of a team I dislike irl (HTC, RadioShack mainly) falls, even if it is with 100+km to the finish. I'm more sportsmanlike with teams like Europcar or Garmin.

My help for Sørensen was very much because of the fact that I am the Danish national coach . And I hate seeing my country getting beat by Norway, who is 3rd in the rankings. |

Yeah, I kinda favor, as an American, Americans, Canadians, (cause we're not that different ), and Irish and Italians cause that's my bloodline. But I only do that if I can't win a stage with my own team, like a flat stage with a team without a sprinter. Or a bad climbing team in the Alps. But I always put myself first. |

there boring, overpaid, never attack and add really nothing to professional cycling apart from being the team which can take 5 gc contenders to a tour and finish last in the team classment. |

Shut up.
THEY ALL CRASHED
And they don't attack cause that's not there style. We don't knock HTC for not having a climber!!! Or Saxo Bank for not having a sprinter. So stop hating on Radioshack they don't ride your style |

The only time I let some other rider than one of my team win, is when I have the leader's jersey in my team, and don't want to wxhaust my riders for egtting a breakaway back, who's way back in the GC. But I think that happens also in real life
And sometimes, when a rider from a small CT-team is in the lead, I won't chase him, let the other teams do the work (or is this lazyness?)

You can't say that he can't hate them just because you don't. Everyone is free to have an own opinion about it.
Back to the topic, the only time I don't chase the breakaways is when there is a Swedish rider in it.

I usually don't have a problem because I just made a custom career mode with all my favorite riders. |
