What makes a good story?

I am currently writing a story for PCM 2011 about Vacansoleil-DCM (cheap plug).
I also read several others, and all of them have a different style.
I was wondering what makes a story good in your opinion.
Is it length, pictures, immersion?
My favorites are stories that are detailed and immersive, as if it the Director Sportif is actually writing it, and you get a full insight into the team and races.

my favourite story is the DFL PCM 2007 story just because it's long and i like long stories it just really depends on taste some like Baia and tshoma style of a picture board or Roturn and Batista's style of indivdual pictures it just depends |

to make yourself stand out you just need to keep going through your season when you get to the giro or finish a season depending on the team people will start to follow |

Update at least every 3 days, keep the results posted so people don't have to go back through.. try to also follow your team specifically during your races while not forgetting the whole race.

whenever theres stage races put who gets the KoM and sprint points in spoilers. Afte the race put the full results in a spoiler, the full GC standings in a spoiler and the top 15 for KoM, Sprinting and youngster standings in a spoiler. Also you need to have the right amount of photos and writing. Too much of one (especially photos) will ruin the balance.

My best advice is writing a strory how you want it. It is the best way to keep yourself motivated to continue writing reports. And the longer you stay active the more popular the story will become.
From what I have noticed over the period of time I have been active here, a story's popularity can be broken down like this:
30% Unique Style
25% Length
20% Results
20% Who's Writing It
5% Luck
That is just my opinion, hopefully that helps.
And if your goal is to have a popular story, then your writing the story for the wrong reason. It should be something you enjoy, and not about the fame. My 2 cents
