January Preview
We open the season with a training camp in Sagres, Portugal.
This helped form an idea of who will be in good early season form, with the early man in form being De Gendt.
"I Hope to be among the front runners in the coming weeks. The new Director Sportif is doing a fantastic job, and VCD seems stronger than ever." De Gendt
Our calendar for January is a sparse one. with only two races;
Santos Tour Down Under 19/1 -24/1 UWT
Grand Prix de Marseille 30/1 1.1
We will try to keep you updated with other major news from the cycling world, starting with both Australian Champinships.
See you in Australia ...

Santos Tour Down Under - Stage 1
Fantastically close sprint for the KoM points, which was between Brandle, Lancaster and Ongarato. With Ongarato winning the points and will wear the KoM jersey tomorrow.
Every attack that went out was instantly covered by the peloton, and as a result no BOTD could form. Until the last 30km, that is.
At 30km to go Gardeyn tried to get away solo, and hovered at around 20" intil 17km to go.
Then at 10km to go De Gendt tested his good form, going solo ahead of the HTC train. Again he could only get 20", before being caught at 2.5km to the line.
Bozic sat on Cavendish wheel all the way up to 1.5km to go, a pre-empted the Manx Missiles launch. He was still in first with 300m to go. Unfortunatly is a bit to far, as Alan Davis and Daniel Bennati came through to take 1st and 2nd, with Bozic 3rd.

Summary;
Interesting first race. Impressed hugly by Ongarato and Gardeyn who were always on the attack. De Gendts dig at the finish was the fantastic to watch, as he deffyed HTC and allowed Bozic to follow Cavs. Bozic 3rd place was fantastic but perhaps should have been a win, but its a good sign for stages to come.

Santos Tour Down Under - Stage 2
Hoping to hold onto the KoM jersey for another day Ongarato was on the attack from the off, but like Stage 1, no breaks were allowed to form. This did work in our favor as it allowed Ongarato an easy attack to take the points.
After they worked so well on Stage 1, we attempted to disrupt the lead-outs with some late attacks. Gardeyn went at 30km to go, a lasted all the way to 7km.
While he was ahead a crash occured at the back of the pack, Sagan and Wyss connected, and the result blocked the road.
This damaged the early lead-outs, but not as much as our next move. As HTC tried to re-organise from a chase to a train, Bozic managed to secure Renshaws wheel, ahead of Cavendish.
This was a stroke of genius by the Slovakian. He benefitted from the best lead-out in the world, and some bad form from Cavendish. Taking full advantage he took VCD's first win of the year, ahead of Cavendish and Sutton.
Classifications will follow later ...

Santos Tour Down Under - Stage 3
Firstly i would like to apologise, our camerman was off with a cold today, and we have had to rely on images from another source, so we have only one. Normal business will be resumed for the next stage.
The first break of the race formed. Popovych, Sella and Onagarato. They got about 1'40 at max. This allowed Ongarato more KoM points by coming third in the sprint. All the major action waited until the last climb of the day.
At the base of it Marcato attacked and went clear, gaining 20" in no time. Popovych attacked in the lead group and was unanswered. Marcato passed the other two escapees, and marched on to catch Popovych. Meanwhile back in the peloton VCD made there move, coming to the front to raise the pace. Which was done with such effect that Carrar, De Gendt and Westra got a gap, while Bozic lead home the peloton.
Up front Marcato beat Popovych to the line, to claim VCD's 2nd win of the race! Sella was 3rd, while Carrar et al caught Ongarato and came across the line in 4th-7th while Bozic headed the peloton ... and defending his GC lead.
Summary;
This race just gets better and better for us. Marcato taking a win, while VCD dominated the top 10. Ongarato now looks extremly good to take the KoM, and Bozic keeps the GC lead. (because of this result i will change the difficulty up to the next level)

Santos Tour Down Under - Stage 4
Sorry, but our camerman is still ill.
A large break of 12 got away today, most notably including the Iglinsky brothers. The group got a maximum of 6'00 over the peloton.
The chase was disorganised, with Lampre and HTC undecided as to who was forcing the chase, while they pulled Bozic back into the lead.
The upshot of this was that the break was only caught on the line, meaning the victory goes to Vivianni of Liquiqas.
Another crash at the back today. And again it was Sagan involved, except this time he didn't make it to the finish.
Summary;
A lucky day for us. All out riders got ahead of the crash, but Ongarato and Gardeyn both got dispatched from the sprinters group and lost small amounts of time. Bozic keeps his lead, thanks to the efforts of HTC and Lampre. Hopefully Stage 5 will be more straight forward.

Santos Tour Down Under - Stage 5
Our camera man is back today.
Willunga Hill was always going to be difficult for us today. Lancaster and Barry formed todays break, with Lancaster taking all the KoM points, and to our dismay the KoM lead from Ongarato, by 4pts.
However it was all about the final sprint. Bozic again stole Renshaw's wheel from Cavendish.
Unfortunatly he was unable to capitalise today, in what was the most open sprint of the race. Dumoulin came out on top, but only after Mondory has started to celebrate. Bozic was 4th.
Summary;
We were unlucky with the KoM today, but will fight hard to get it back tomorrow. Bozic is becoming rather good at following Renshaw, and was unlucky to not win. As a team we now know how to disrupt the big lead outs, excellent.

Santos Tour Down Under - Stage 6
The big finish in Adelaide lived up to expectations. Fast, hard, attacking, and a crash. Ongarato was desperate to get away to claim some mountain points, but was too well placed overall to be allowed. But because of his agressive ride no other breaks formed, and it was all for the sprint.
Well almost... With 14km to go there was a crash right at the front, taking out Marcato, and many others.
Then with 4km to go, both De Gendt and Gardeyn attacked, with Tosatto in tow. This again messed up HTC's lead out a bit.
Caught at 2.5km to go, the sprint was on. Could Bozic hold on to the overall, 2nd would garantee it, 3rd would mean Davis coulnd't podium ... the tension in the support car was crushing ....
Bozic was on Cav's wheel, surley this would pilot him home? Wait a late surge from Pettachion the right ... and thats Davis on the left!!
GO BOZIC GO!!!
YYYYYYEEEEEEESSSSSSS!!!!!!!
Bozic comes 3rd, Cavendish wins, and Davis is 4th ....
We started celebrating too son in the car, and actually hit the race officials car ahead ... woops
Summary;
Bozic .... amazing, a stage win and the GC ...
Ongarato ... agressive and mightily unlucky with the KoM ...
The team were agressive from start to finish, and fully deserved all we acheived
