I think this is a tough poll, because so many of these riders are the best in there given fields of expertice, and it's really hard to compare. Contador is probably the best Grand Tour racer of his generation. Cavendish is the best sprinter in the world right now, Gilbert swept the Ardennes classics this year and is the world's best puncheur. And finally Cancellara is the best time-trialist in the world, along with one of the best cobblestone riders in history. Overall I have to vote for Contador but I think all of the riders on this list ar amazing cyclists and deserve equal amounts of respect for their numerous and amazing accomplishments. And Sunday, Andy Schleck joins the ranks of Tour de France winners, congrats to him on a great and quite tour. Feel bad for Evans, but you can't rely on someone to get caught, especially not Andy Schleck in the Pyrenees.

By best rider, I'm taking it as best all rounder. Of those listed I narrow it down to Gilbert, Hushovd and Hagen.
I'm going for Gilbert.

I'm surprised you didn't mention Cadel. He's one of the most allround riders I know.
Contador or Gilbert for me. |

they are all good at specific fields but this is just who you like the most, who would you least like to be up against in a race?

Voted Gilbert, what he's done the 2 last years makes me believe that he's the best, second place to Contador

I took Gilbert, he can do all the classics. He showed he can sprint a little. Medium mountains are no problem for him. He's not an awful TT, after all he was 37th through the 3rd time check yesterday before giving up because his chain kept slipping. His only real weakness are high mountains and the third week of a grand tour and maybe the TT. With there being no one that does everything well, he's the one that does the most things well. |

Well, even though it's not written, this is like a second best rider contest. Mads is above them all, that goes without saying. |

No reason to include any other riders than Contador, Cavendish,Cancellara and Gilbert. You can't seriously mean that another rider is better than any of these four. |
