No Scenery, Just Grass, I was promised Beauty

Don't get me wrong the game is great. I can't resist the lure of an entire game based on the drama of cycling.

But when I play there is no scenery. Just green fields. The entire stage is bare apart from the roads. Is it meant to be like that? What can I do to fix it?

You need to go to the edit tab in the top right corner of the main menu, one of the five tabs will have a bunch of affects that can go from around 0 to 4. You have to change them to the higher numbers to add stuff like buildings, like urban details, that means buildings. display spectators adds fans who will be throughout the race. If you set them all on high, then you will get the most amount of those details. But your computer may run al little slower Smile Hope this helps
