The reason why there's no tutorial is that it's quite complicated and difficult to explain.
---
Basically, you need:
1. The stages
2. A description file of the variant
3. A rules file
Start by downloading this pack: https://famille.bertrand50.free.fr/PCM...CM2011.rar
Those are the description and rules file for the 2011 races.
When you download a variant, it usually comes with a description file. After doing that, you need to make sure that the names of the files are unique. Many variants are named V1_blabla, but obviously, if you download two Tour de France variants, and both are named V1, you will get into problems.
If you do have to make changes to the file name, you also have to make sure to change them in the description file (.descr). The files can be opened with Notepad.
When everything is okay, add a number to the .descr file (e.g. 02), then open the .rules file (also with Notepad).
It will often look like this:
<defined year="2012" variantMin="1" variantMax="1"/>
This means that it will use variant 1 in 2012.
If you add a variant, you will want it to look like this:
<defined year="2012" variantMin="2" variantMax="2"/>
<defined year="2013" variantMin="1" variantMax="1"/>
<defined year="2014" variantMin="2" variantMax="2"/>
<defined year="2015" variantMin="1" variantMax="1"/>
<defined year="2016" variantMin="2" variantMax="2"/>
... which means that it will use your new variant in 2012, the original race in 2013, your variant in 2014 etc.
---
... or instead of going through all that trouble, wait a couple of days and download a database with variants instead ;) |

Hi Mates. I Have a variant of PCM 2010, but my question is: are there diferences between pcm2010 variants and 2011 ones? Any changes in descr files? I read that there were changes in IA related things...

Variants work in the same way as in PCM10, but PCM10 stages shouldn't be used in PCM11 - see the thread above |

The descr and rule files are still the same.
It`s just not recommended to use variants in PCM11 made with the PCM10 editor.
Therefore the stage maker should convert them.
In the Daily DB there are lots of converted variants btw. |

Ok, then the best idea is convert my original zcts files to pcm11 with '11editor

Do you have to add the variants in the editor and/or the description files, or is this already done in the DailyDB? |

If you have downloaded the Daily DB, the variants are already fully installed. |

sweet! the reason why i asked, is that i checked the db (updated version) in the editor, and there were nothing in variant_dates and only national championships in variant_stage. |

The variants are automatically loaded to the database when you start a career.

You're not supposed to make a .xml. .xml are for PCM09, .cds and .zces are PCM10/PCM11 file formats. |

I'm sorry, i didn't read it carefully.
I mean that, how can I make my own descr.? Or are those just the .cds and .zces together?

You can download the pack I linked to above and copy a .descr file from there and adapt it. |

I have adapted a .descr, but;
when I saved it, it became an .txt
and roturn says that the .descr and the .rules are the same, but do I have to change that file that I've changed for the descr. again in a <defined year="2012" variantMin="1" variantMax="1"/>?
