There is a Women's World Cup thread, and could not believe there wasn't one for this tournament which gathers the best South American football players.
Very hard and even cup so far. Before it started Argentina was clearly the great favorite with Messi, Agüero and Tevez on board. Brazil was the defending champion from 2004 and 2007 editions; Neymar, Pato, Julio Cesar, Dani Alves, Maicon and so on are on board the 5 time World Cup champions team. Uruguay being 4th in South Africa 2010 is also expected to perform with the likes of Forlan, Cavani and Suarez leading the offensive. Among other favorites were Chile with their new young gun Alexis Sanchez in company of good balanced players and Paraguay always being a strong tactical team with Haedo Valdez, Roque Santa Cruz and Justo Villar in the lead. Colombia with Falcao being their flagman was thought as a promising team.
So far the quarterfinals were the fallowing:
Colombia - Peru. (Good Colombian team overall. Peru very tactical and intelligent) Argentina - Uruguay. (Argentina full of stars that fail to play as a team. Messi looks like an average player without the Barcelona jersey. Uruguay is a monster team, incredible sacrifice and technique in its players) Brazil - Paraguay. (Brazil plays better than Spain in my opinion but they miss thousands of goal opportunities. Paraguay has been very defensive but intelligent and opportunistic when it counts) Chile - Venezuela. (Chile became the favorite after showing a type of Barcelona-esque football. Venezuela keeps showing its not a Cinderella team any longer, good overall as Colombia)
After the quarter final matches, held yesterday and today, none of the maximum favorites survived.
