Following on from the announcement for the ProTour cobbled races, it's time to see which Continental teams will be able to ride alongside the likes of Frank Schleck, Jan Bakelandts, Edvald Boasson Hagen, Yuri Trofimov and World Champiomn Tejay van Garderen, amongst others.
And let's start with the so-called 'Ardennes Classics'. Jelle Vanendert and Cyril Gautier will get their chance in the week's opener, Amstel Gold Race, as Team Bpost have been invited here. The mid-week trip to Huy could also give a chance for the French, a trained-up Jeremy Roy will lead Focused Cycling here, while finally we come to the big one, Liege-Bastogne-Liege, and it will be as if he never left, as Luis Leon Sanchez Gil will be here once again, leading the Cerne team.
Another race with hills in the Benelux region is the Classique du Grand-Duche in Luxembourg. But it will be a Belgian and a Duthcman who lead the wildcard team here: Lars Boom and Ben Hermans for Team Rothaus - Aegon. Then there is the GP Mendrisio. Another European ProTour classic, but there certainly isn't anything European about the chosen wildcard. Aussie Matthew Lloyd will lead the Japanese Meiji - Fuji outfit.
Finally, let's not forget the two other monuments in cycling. There is Milan - SanRemo, and who else but Vespa - Aprilia - De Rosa received the wildcard here, they will hope that this is a race that Francesco Ginanni can show up and deliver in, a talent that Ginanni only sometimes possesses. Staying in Italy, we have the season-ending Giro di Lombardia, and a visit from Alejandro Valverde and the Proximus - Trek team.

Excellent! Vanendert came 13th and Gautier 18th in last year's Amstel Gold. Hopefully together one of them will get into the top 10.
Good luck to all the others.

Thanks for the Grand Duche wild card.
Boom and Hermans might not be able to challenge the very best. But both of them will do well there I think. Plus they got some super domestiques there.
(Especially as I created this race, I will tell them every single trick)
Good luck to the others.
Bpost seems to have a very nice schedule now.

Well, to be fair. Svam did the gpx originally. So he knows even better, but he is not part of the Man Game. |

Muahahahah
The not horribly dressed team prevails
Cerne is delighted to be racing LBL. To be honest we didn't even expect our wildcard bid would be considered in any of the Ardennes, so participating in the biggest of them is a real surprise. We'll make sure to give our best in order to honor this invitation.

MSR - excellent. I think Ginanni has a better chance of winning this than Lombardia. Just needs to jump on those last two hills to improve on 4th. |

Awesome that Meiji are in Mendrisio. I'm not sure what to expect from Lloyd, but I think he might be able show off the jersey a little bit.
