AIs sprint trains
cactus-jack
I feel that the sprints in PCM11 are much better then they were in PCM10. I don't even get annoyed if I get boxed in. However, after having been in a few races with a custom team I haven't really noticed the sprint trains as well as I had hoped. I've mostly raced T1-races against some minor teams.

I'm in April and I've raced in maybe 6-7 races all with maybe 3-4 flat stages each. In those 20 or so flat stages I've seen one AI-train once. Other than that every single team was sprinting like they used to last year. Farrar followed by Cav, followed by Boasson Hagen, etc...

I've attached a photo to show what my sprints are usually like...

Normally there should be 1-3 sprint trains if there are strong teams with the necessary riders for it.
Other sprinters will hang behind these.
It`s not too unrealistic imo as there aren`t that many trains in real.

www.shrani.si/t/2h/rD/38OsfTt4/sprint.jpg I f.. can not win a stage with bennati, great train lead out but than everybody goes pass him but he still have both bars... This sprint have won S. Sanchez... Bennati was 6... Any tips for me?

PS: This was last stage in vuelta, Sanchez have won 7 stages and been 6 times on podium, best climber, best in points, had 12min advantage over Schleck which is totally unreal for me...

m3d3k - Bennati must be sprinting from too far out, and would then tire (and provide the perfect draft for others)

@ cactus : i have noticed the same in lower races you just dont get the sprinting talent you get in the bigger races, so they dont form the sprint trains..Or, if you have dominant sprinter, they will sit in your train. Do pro tour races and there is usually 3-4 sprint trains going.

@M3d3k : I would say Voigt is great at pulling the train along, but you want a sprinter between him and Bennati. Voigt is a poor sprinter, you would want someone like Wagner on Voigt's wheel, he would start the sprint, and then have bennati counter and blow past him.. In that pic above, i would say bennati is the perfect lead out man for is it Cav behind him and then Rojas gil..

I once read that a good lead out needs to have an average of higher than 70 at least in flat/sprint.
So Voigt`s 80? in flat but 60? in sprint is still an average lead out, but as duckman said, someone with 72/75 is a better last lead out.

Thanks for answers, but that sprint have won Sanchez from 6 spot, i do not have any other sprinters so noone can not be in front of bennati. I will try in another race to have some1 infront of bennati.

Also if you don`t have a good lead out, you don`t need to make an own sprint train. Just hang on other sprinters.

What roturn said, although I've found the Voigt (10 km) -> Cancellara (5 km) -> O'Grady (2 km) -> Bennatti (0,7 km) train to be quite effective when playing with Leopard Trek..Smile

I really like the sprints in the new edition. With a good leadout your can make better results than expected with a decent sprinter but not win the stages, whereas in PCM10 you could quite easily dominate the green jersey competition in TDF with a 75-sprinter (sprint and stamina) if you had a good train.

The issue of 10-12 sprinters tugged in behind each other annoys me, though. For me it happens even in the Pro Tour-races (even the grand tours) if I start my train from 10 km as all the other sprinters takes the wheel of mine.

Voigt as first leadout is perfect. He is just "crap" as last ahead of your main sprinter. O`Grady much better there. Wink

Oh, another point. It might be me imagining things, but my first impressions of PCM11 seems to indicate, that it's more important to have your riders in tip top condition in the races your want top performances in.

The difference between a 99 pts and a 90 pts performance seems larger this year. E.g. if the other sprinters is on 95 pts and your's is on 90 you will struggle.

I guess there is probably problem in low recovery value of most sprinters comparing to Sanchez

Yup. Although his 71 for sprints is a bit low at times. Usually looks for at least 75 for a TDF-lead out man. If an on form Cavendish comes flying by from 1,5 kms out, you might want to jump to his wheel..Smile

This is why the original DB sucks, sprinters get far too low value in recuperation.

Most custom db makers fix this right up if they have any knowledge of the game and cycling

i just raced 1st stage of Santos Down under Tour.

And there Lampre had a good flat stat man in front.
And then hondo
and then of course pettachi. and it went VERY well.

But how do you get rid of your lead out man in front.
Just put him on dot. and then in this case let hondo start the sprint, and ofc pettachi on Counter sprint?

You can use "counter sprint" to build your train. Then just start the sprint with Hondo, he should overtake the lead out easily. If you feel that your lead out is getting too slow then start the sprint with Pettachi or if other sprinters are faster, counter sprint them first.

breezer
Lachi yeah okay.
So actually set a fast pace with the lead out man (didnt catch his name).
Then actually start the sprint with hondo, and counter with petacchi as said before, and you said aswell.

that make sense..

thx for the info Grin

I find that a sprinter with 75+ works well. If possible, have your sprinter sprint from approx. 500m. 3 sprinters, 1 to open the sprint, then when that one dies, the second one goes. To keep them out the front, I like to use a couple of strong TTers (the like of Richie Porte, etc). I find that this works pretty well. Or you can get your sprinter to follow one of the other big sprinters then go when you start to be passed by other riders or at 500m.
