when i play trek, a schleck won't sign a new contract, despite winning both giro de italy and tour de france.
when i play htc, cav won't sign a new contract, despite winning the green jersey in tdf and overall a good year.
this is despite i counterbid they're contract request with a raise of several thousand dollars. anyone else have trouble with this? |

Happens very often to me as well. That's beacause rider's behaviour during negotiations is merely random. They won't re-sign even if you offer them double the money they require. The best think you can do to avoid loosing your key riders is to renew their contract one season prior expiry. in this case riders won't refuse the new contract (if you match their contract term requirements). |

the problem is, that in both cases this happens during the 1. season. they both starts with only 1 year left, and despite offering them contract about 20 times with double paycheck they "want to wait to july", and when july/aug comes they signed for a new team... jerks!!! |

Or just offer a new contract before he won that many races. (= As soon as the new season has started) |

The concept of the game is that you cannot renew all contracts. It has nothing to do with "Cyanide Logic" or "jerks".
One of the reasons is to make sure that not all careers look the same. Just thing about it, you would not want all teams to renew all contracts, else you could not find new riders. Or think about what happened with Saxo, they lost their best riders and had to find a replacement. It makes the game more interesting.
If you really want to play with the same riders for 10 years, then just edit all contracts at the beginning of the season (which can be done in Excel within seconds). |

Partially agree with that. I would accept offer rejection if the rider wants to move to a team of his own country, wants to be absolute leader, isn't happy about the role he had on his favourite races and so on. But leaving it to complete randomness it's really stupid. And the "i want to wait for july" motivation is misleading.
edit: let me add that it's really frustrating that the game hadn't had any single improvment on this part of the game for years (they even moved some step back by removing the seasonal programs for team leaders)

Sadly, some of the management changes are definite backwards steps. For example, why does the finance screen no longer tell you how much money you will have in the bank at the end of the season?
The whole financial aspect is something that Cyanide seem to struggle with in the game. Unless I'm mistaken you don't have anything telling you how much you will pay for agents searching for a new sponsor and when you've hired them their costs don't appear on the breakdown of monthly costs. Very poor to be honest.

@titleist82:
The game has to do it like that because other teams can only start negotiations in July. It would break the system if riders would make contracts with teams prior to this date.
It might be misleading and frustrating but it is like in the real world. Look at the Schleck case. I don't think Riis did know exactly what was going on. And then all of the sudden some rumors and news came up...
