Australian Championships
type of stage: hill
Last winner: Travis Meyer(Garmin Cervelo)
My team: Davis. Clarke
Favourites:
***Evans, Gerrans
**Davis, Goss
*O'grady, Rogers
Expectation: We hope that the pace won't be very fast on the hills so Davis can hold on to the group and finish it in the sprint.
The race:
The first race of the season, 49 riders at the start. all with good hopes for this season. Ofcourse like in every other race a breakaway was formed. This time containing only 3 riders: C. Meyer(Garmin Cervelo), Calabria(team type 1), Norris (Drapac).
Then a favourite attacked with still 90 km to go he's starting to get old but he still has a great accelaration: O'Grady. He reached the escapees very quick
Sky tried their best to reale in the escapees, but it didn't work out great . when there was 25 km to go the breakaway still had 3'20 ahead of the peloton. Than at the last climb of the day Gerrans and Evans attacked, nobody could follow them.
But even though Gerrans and Evans were working very hard to win the race, the breakaway made it. But the best sprinter of the group rode very stupid, as O'grady did. C.Meyer in the perfect place.
Norris was the first to get out of the wheel but he was to far behind because C.Meyer outsprinted O'grady from out his perfect position and took the win.
result:
1. C. Meyer (Garmin) +0
2. L. Norris (Drapac) ''
3. S. O'Grady (Leopard) ''
4. F. Calabria (Type 1) ''
5. S. Gerrans (Sky) +1'00
6. C. Evans (BMC) ''
7. R. Sutherland (health) ''
8. R. Porte (Saxo)''
9. R. McEwen (Radioshack)''
10. G. Brown (Rabobank)''
14. A. Davis (Astana)'' |

Santos tour down under
Last winner: André Greipel
Favourites:
*** Boasson Hagen, Pozzato
** Voigt L.L Sanchez
* Van Avermaet, Popovych
My team: Gasparotto, Davis, Lorenzetto, Bazayev, Petrov, Gourov, V.Iglinsky
Expectation: The sponsor want us to get the point jersey here, so that's our goal with Davis, the intermediate sprints give very much points in compare with the end sprint so you'll see Davis in the attack in the hill stage(s). We also have Gasparotto on our team, we think he can make top 5 in the GC. |

Tour down under stage 1-2
Stage 1 (flat) ( I forgot to make screenshots )
favourites: Cavendish, Petacchi, Bennati
The first pro tour race of this season and were very excited and we hope to see some great results of Astana this year.
This day is ofcourse a day for Davis and we will try to make a train with Lorenzetto V.Iglinsky and Gasparotto. A big group tried to make a breakaway, containing Bazayev, Ravard and other little sprinters. They didn't get away. Then with 90 km to go Perez Lezaun(Euskatel) and Hammond (Garmin Cervelo) attacked. The peloton saw them again with 12 km to go.
Because Iglinsky had a really bad, we choose to put Bazayev instead of him in the train. The train went horribly wrong and Davis had to start the sprint from around 15nd postion. At the same moment Cavendish had a rider too few in his train and he had to go early.
Boonen showed a great form and came from 5nd position into first and took the stage.
Result:
1. T.Boonen (QST) +0
2. R.McEwen (RSH) ''
3. G. van Avermeat (BMC) ''
4. D. Bennati (LEO) ''
5. A. Petacchi (LAM) ''
6. M. Cavendish (HTC) ''
7. A. Blythe (OLO) ''
8. G. Henderson (SKY) ''
9. A. Davis (AST) ''
10. B. Bozic (VAC) ''
Stage 2 (flat)
Favourites: Boonen, Cavendish, McEwen
We have to do better today to reach our sponsor goal( the point jersey) Our plan was to send Iglinsky along with the breakaway but when he reached the front of the peloton the break was already made containing Isasi (Euskatel), Cooke (Saxo), Phinney (BMC). Thir biggest gap was 8:05
A lot of teams worked together to get them back like Radioshack, Quickstep, Lampre and Htc highroad. But they started a bit late so the pace of the peloton is really high to real them in, they still had 1"40 with 22 km to go. The teams succed in their goal.
When the sprint starts we choose the wheel of Boasson Hagen, who interrupted HTC's train.
When Goss had done his job Cavendish accelerated really hard and nobody could follow him, He takes the stage and he has spend some time in the sun as you can see. Van Avermeat is showing a great form. McEwen takes the leaders jersey.
result:
1. M. Cavendish (HTC) +0
2. R. McEwen (RSH) ''
3. G. van Avermaet (BMC) ''
4. A. Davis (AST) ''
5. M. Goss (HTC) ''
6. T. Boonen (QST) ''
7. D. Bennati (LEO) ''
8. E. Boasson Hagen (SKY) ''
9. A. Petacchi (LAM) ''
10. A. Blythe (OLO) '' |

@yoejo That will happen in the following stages and I tried it in the first stage but it failed, so I tried a different way
Tour Down Under 3-4
Hill
favourites: Sagan, Van Avermaet, Pozzato
Davis still has not grabbed any points for the jersey, but he's getting in abetter shape now, that made us decide that he will get in the breakaway today to sprint for the points. We've got Gasparroto who can win a stage like this.
But the peloton wouldn't let Davis go so he had only 40 seconds left at the first intermediate sprint, but that's enough.
The next breakaway contains Bazayev and Guesdon(FDJ)
Santambrogio (BMC) attacked early and reached Bazayev and Guesdon, at the same moment Bazayev attacked. He still had one minute on the pack. In a downhill part L.L Sanchez (RAB) attacked.
Pozzato went after him. But he never reached Sanchez and also the attacks in the pack never rached him. A great stage for him.
I haven't exported the stage results yet, sorry...
Stage results:
1. L.L Sanchez (RAB) +0
2. F. Pozzato (KAT) +38
3. J. Bakelants (OLO) +1'04
4. F. Reda (QST) ''
5. Y. Popovych (RSH) ''
6. E. Gasparotto (AST) ''
7. A. Davis (AST) ''
8. J. Voigt (LEO) ''
9. Y. Offredo (FDJ) ''
10. G. van Avermaet (BMC) ''
GC:
1. L.L Sanchez (RAB) ''
2. F. Pozzato (KAT) +42
3. R. McEwen (RSH) +1'02
4. G. van Avermaet (BMC) + 1'06
5. A. Davis (AST) +1'10
Points:
1. R. McEwen (RSH) 12
8. A. Davis (AST) 8
Stage 4:
Flat
Favourites: Cavendish, McEwen, Boonen
Davis has to do well in the sprint today so he will take some points.
We send Valentin Iglinsky along with the breakaway. He went with Menzies( Health) Sabatini (LIQ) Goddaert (AG2R) Da Dalto (LIQ) Lancaster (GAR)
With 30 km to go, they sill have got 3'00 but then the peloton accelerated and they went very fast. They closed the gap in 20 km. We tried a train this time and this time it did work. On the left you see the trian of Cavendish with McEwen in his wheel.
It's a pity that Cavendish went early so McEwen is in a perfect position.
He overtook Cavendish and Davis couldn't make it and ends third.
I will have the results exported from stage 5 of TDU
stage result:
1. R. McEwen (RSH) +0
2. M. Cavendish (HTC) ''
3. A. Davis (AST) ''
4. S. Hinault (AGR) ''
5. T. Boonen (QST) ''
6. G. Henderson (SKY) ''
7. G. van Avermaet (BMC) ''
8. H. Haussler (GAR) ''
9. A. Blythe (OLO) ''
10. F. Pozzato (KAT) ''
Points:
1. R. McEwen (RSH) 20
2. M. Cavendish (HTC) 14
3. A. Davis (AST) 12 |

Tour down Under 5
Stage 5:
flat/hill
With two times up the Willunga hill, i'ts for the sprinters with a good hill stat.
Favourites: Davis, van Avermaet, Goss
We've got a great team for this stage with Gasparotto who can be a great pace maker for Davis in the last kilometers. The breakaway was easily formed and contained 6 man: Vigano (LEO), Koren (LIQ), Ginnani (AND), Wilson (GAR), Westra (VAC), Meersman (FDJ).
I chased the breakaway today because Davis was feeling really strong. We held the pace on the Willunga hill a bit slow, so Davis won't lose any energy. But this means that guys like McEwen could still hang in there but they did suffer on the hill. With 4 km to go Gasparotto set a really high pace with Bennati in his wheel. Davis was in his wheel. Bozic came from behind.
Davis countered really strong and finally took the win for Astana. He outsprinted the other guys easily.

Tour Down Under stage 6
flat
favourites: Cavendish, McEwen, Davis
It's a really exciting day today, because in the battle for the points jersey. They both got 20 points. So we have to get on the podium today and better than McEwen. Because it was a short stage no breakaway got away and there was an intermediate sprint and we weren't there. I wasn't observant enough. But luckily McEwen wasn't there aswell. So the Manx missile could take the sprint.
This makes the mass sprint a little more exciting because now Cavendish has 20 points aswell. But I think I can make it with Davis, he has + 5.
All the sprint trains were set up, but stupid Klier still thought he would get away with a this high pace. Petacchi and Cavendish went early, Davis had to react and took over them. Mc Ewen is coming very hard from behind wiil Davis make it??
YESSSSSS he makes it, he wins over McEwen with very little distance. A beautiful win and he takes the points jersey.
