Height-to-weight ratio
cactus-jack
I am trying to establish some facts here when it comes to cyclists' height and weight. As a general rule you could say that:

- Climbers: short and light weight
- Time trailists: Not necessarily tall, but with a fairly high weight
-Sprinters: Tall, muscular and with some pounds to spare.

Would this "analysis" be correct? Or can you think of certain cyclists' who differ alot from the norm? Say a rider like Rujano who shouldn't even be in the top 100 in a TT.

Personally I'm about 167cm with a weight around 46kg. Needless to say; I do my stuff when it goes up, up and up!

Ye in most cases it would be right. But eg. Robert Gesink is quite tall, he is still a pretty good climber Wink

Same for the Schleck brothers..

But generally speaking it fits more or less

I must say that in nowadays there are more and more tall climbers like Schlecks, VDB, Gesink, Basso, Nibali, Siutsou etc.

So i think it's probably more about musculatur and breathing system.

There are so many factors:

What duration of effort are you best at? A few seconds? 3 hours?
Are you aerodynamic?
Are you light or heavy?
Which of your muscles are most efficient?
Mentally, are you good at pacing yourself? Are you determined? Are you good at focusing for short or long stretches?

I mean, Chaba was a muscular 1,83m and 70kg and built like a TT guy. He was one of the best climbers the world has seen and lost many minutes in each flat TT.

Bernard Hinault was 1,73m. He was the undisputed king of the TT.
