So, I got very, very bored, and really didn't want to do revision/coursework.
I therefore decided to create the history of the ProTour.
The history starts off with a spreadsheet. This spreadsheet contains the result of every single race run in the ProTour.
For stage races: stage winners, race leader, GC podium, points, KOM, U25, type of stage, very brief summary of stage.
For classics: top 10.
.ods: https://www.mediaf...dffe6s11lj
.xls: https://www.mediaf...6a1f1jctq3
It also contains riders and their wins, and the history of the rankings
Remarks:
- Whilst I've tried to be as accurate as possible, there may be some mistakes. Please point them out, even if they're spelling mistakes
- In the summary section: BREAK = early break, SPRINT = late attack
- If the profile is not stated, I've guessed
- Autofill is VERY helpful
- Openoffice is not as good as excel. Shame I don't have excel.
Remarks on the Managment Game:
- Records from the early seasons were sometimes very hard to find or non-existent. This probably says something about me
- The management game has improved considerably since the beginning
- The quality of reporting has improved considerably since the beginning
Remarks on PCM:
- It still crashes more than it should, be less often nowadays (although given the hackiness of the DB, this could be understandable)
- The same bugs still exist. Climbers inevitably win random sprints, sprinters randomly judder backwards etc.
Interesting stats:
Managers:
- 5 managers have played for every season: SportingNonsense, Crommy, doddy13, CrueTrue and setzel
- Only one of these is a non-admin. Setzel is to be congratulated on this, it's a very good achievement.
- jolly_antunes is the only new manager in 2008 still with us. Well done.
Riders:
- For 49.5% of the Giro d'Italia since 2007, Damiano Cunego has been wearing the Maglia Rosa. Leader.
- Samuel Sanchez Gonzalez: Never changed teams. Came in the top 10 of 10 Monuments. Loyalty bonus.
- If Tom Boonen gets on the podium in a Classic, there's a 57.9% chance it'll be on the top step. If he's in the top 10, there's a 52.4% chance he'll win and a 90.5% chance he'll be on the podium. All or Nothing.
- La Gazetta Dello Sport have both riders who've won the most stages: Damiano Cunego and Daniele Bennati, both with 18. Team Effort.
- Andrei Kasheckin has podiumed in 6 Gc's, but never won a race. Missing Something.
- Thomas Dekker only won 2 stages last year. This was the first year he hadn't won a jersey of any kind. Peaked early?
More of these stats to follow soon and throughout the season.
In Summary:
- I still maintain Theo Bos is a good rider
The history will continue soon, when a written account of each season and the races will be created, focusing more on the events that unfolded in each race, transfer dealings etc.
I'm not going to do a version for Continental Tour. This is because it took me long enough to do this, and given I've never had a team in the Continental Tour, I feel I'm not best placed to do this. I'd encourage anyone to do a Continental Tour version.

Like it, some riders have really been impressive ;-) Did Boonen win anything last year (any cobble classics)?

Crommy, if you don't mind, I'll pop all the information you write into the Man Game Archive [which is currently under construction in a hidden spooky place]. Saves me having to find out all the information on the seasons, and I can focus on the teams and who rode for who in what year.

I was going to write about him, then completely forgot to add what I was going to write about. I'll update it now

Of course that's fine
I can focus on the teams and who rode for who in what year.
I was thinking about doing that, but it would take years
Have fun with that

Crommy, this is an incredable effort and to me a valuable resource. As the ManGame goes on it becomes as much about what has happened before as what happens next.
Boonan, who took the Paris Roubaix last year Heine, had by his standards a fairly barren year taking a couple of stages in the Northern European Tour and the Tour de France. He is one of the all time greats in the Man Game though having won so many races including three apiece of the P-R and the RvV.
Anyway had a brief look at the file, was interested to look at the teams one. It does make you realise how fluid things have been in the past, I mean this year we have just two managers dropping out from the protour... Last year there were five!
Crommy: I am looking at those rankings and it seems the last couple of years you have been desperately close to the dreaded specticle of relegation - perhaps you may be in the CTour sooner than you think!

Quick question on the team standings one:
Noticing a big difference in the scoring between 2009 and 2010. What was the scoring policy from 2007 to 2009?

Thanks, but I'll survive in the ProTour. I don't know how I manage it, but I always seem to do

It should work in excel. But if you're still struggling, I'll upload as .xls
