I just got a new rig. i2500K OC'd to 4.5Ghz and a ATI 6870HD GPU.
I would have thought I could run PCM on max settings, but it crashes all the time. I seem to remember that the version of the ATI driver could have a big impact. Anyone got a similar setup working well? If so what Catalyst version are you running ?
Thanks in advance,

I have 10-2. but actually I had several different versions and never had problems with PCM10.
Normally the RAM is the problem and not the graphic card with PCM. Even with the best hardware, PCM will crash after using a specific amount of RAM capacity. So not important if you have 4gb or 16gb.
I play everything on maximum but deactivated anti aliasing, anistrophy? and city textures on half, although I could max everything. But so the crashes are much less. |

Thank you. I am currently running on 10-12. I'll try downgrading to 10-2 for a test. I have 8Gb installed, but would have thought that sufficient. |

My computer with only 4GB ( doesn't really amtter with PCM), Ati Radeon 5770 and lower CPU, can run the game on max evertying. So it might be Catalyst Version. I am on 10-10, though not very certain it is catalyst that is causing problems.

It does not matter how much RAM you have, the game is 32bit and therefore cannot use it anyway. It crashes when the game reaches the max. memory allowed by windows.
Also roturn said that it does not matter what catalyst version you are using, why should you downgrade to a version which might not even support your card fully?
Reduce the graphical options as recommended and you will not have any worries. |

Well I dunno if I understood roturn 100%... but I guess you didn't understand me when I said that I have seen Catalyst issues before with PCM. Can't remember which version but it was a few years ago and back then I had to try 4/5 different versions of the driver until I found one that PCM liked.... It's a punctilious piece of software at the best of times wouldn't you agree?
Before I started this thread I did try running PCM at the lowest res and minimum settings and I got exactly the same issues, but thanks for the suggestion. I've included a screenshot so you can see what I am getting.

I had several ATI cards and I play PCM for years now and I never had an issue, so I cannot say that either software is punctilious.
If you say that your game crashes in 3D then the first suggestion would be to lower the settings. But if the game displays strange images, this is a completely different problem. So what is your problem and for what problem do you seek help? Also you never said, that you already tried lowering the settings. It is not very easy to help if you hold back information, don't you think?
Did you turn off the motion blur and the other stuff on the right side of the graphical options? Have you activated the shaders 3.0? Did you change anything in the CCC? (Catalist control center) |

@Alakagom,
Thank you. I downgraded to version 10-10 and it works. PERFECTLY. It even works with all the settings maxed out (though I will probably throttle back on a couple just in case the GPU temp gets too high)

How lucky you are ! I too have played PCM for years and always with ATI cards.... and it's always been .... a trial... I say that the software is fussy and punctilious because that has been my experience since the beginning, and not just with the graphics......
If you say that your game crashes in 3D then the first suggestion would be to lower the settings. But if the game displays strange images, this is a completely different problem.
It does crash, but only after displaying the weird graphic anomalies I showed in the screenshot.
So what is your problem and for what problem do you seek help? Also you never said, that you already tried lowering the settings. It is not very easy to help if you hold back information, don't you think?
Incomplete information never helped to solve anything... but I don't think that was the case here. If you read my original post, I asked for the versions of Catalyst that worked and thankfully I got a couple of examples that did work. Now mine does too.
Thanks to everyone who was kind enough to reply. I do think that someone should make a survey/sticky of the Catalyst versions they've tried and those that have and have not worked.
Here's my experience.
Catalyst 10-12 NO
Catalyst 11-2 NO
Catalyst 11-3 NO
Catalyst 10-10 YES |
