One of Marcus Fothen's key mountain domestiques Peter Panayotev is Bulgarian and along with Unicredits small time TT specialist Ahmed Ahmed these two make up the sole two contracted riders from Bulgaria riding today.

It is not easy in this fairly cash strapped country and the championships themselves are held in Slovenia. Still a jersey is to be decided!

Peter Panayotov decides to take no chances he saw Ahmed Ahmed win the national jersey last year and decides to go solo early on. No-one can live with the rider honed on hard racing in the Protour.

There are a number of uncontracted riders hoping to impress here Hristov chases with Panayotov's younger brother Evgeni for a long whiles and late on Gabovski a useful TTer moves through the field.

But by 50km to go Peter Panyotov has five minutes on Hristov and can ease of the pedals a bit and look forward to hopefully a custom jersey next year. Perhaps this will advertise Bulgarian cycling to the world?

With Panayotov not much of an expert against the clock.

He is going to face a tough task to beat specialists like Unicredits Ahmed Ahmed.

The first chrono looks close, but the hilly section doesn't suit Ahmed Ahmed and the fact that he held a slight lead there was telling as he extends away on the flatter middle section.
