The Brazilians do not have a particularly well known cycling tradition but they have had one or two riders breakthrough in the pro ranks. This year they have had Nicacao riding in the protour for Energia Diesal, who unfortunately have come back down into the CTour ranks. But the Brazilian may fancy his chances of leading the team in a few stage races, that is if he is retained. Alex Diniz of Bbox has been one of their stage racers, though has lacked stand out results if truth be told and sprinter Manarelli has not quite developed into Brazils new Marilo Fischer as yet.
The parcours for the smaller American countries is quite hilly and very long:
It proves a test of stamina as we first have a 6-3 split with all three named riders plus Bimbo Nutella's decent climber Barberi making the split. However Nicacao turns on the screws with about 160km to go and no-one can really answer. Alex Diniz at least tries to chase but cannot get to within three minutes of the Energie Diesal rider.
After missing out on the road race title last year Nicacao will be pleased to have dominated this one and can look forward to showing off his nations colours next year.
The time trial was a procession once again for Brazil's favourite son Nicacao and his custom made Brazilian national jersey sparkles through the course.
The checks show that he is comfortably quicker than Diniz and the uncontracted Taveres.
So a very comfortable championships for Nicacao, let's see whether his team will retain him - he could be hot property in the transfer market.
