(This story is based on my original story on the Danish forum and will mostly just be translations)
After a catastrophic 2007-season Team CSC will try to regain their reputation as the World's best cycling team. Unfortunately, it can prove to be an extraordinary challenge, since they have decided to keep Mike Jensen as their managed - a decision many have trouble understanding. Team CSC did win La Vuelta, but that can mainly be ascribed to the weak competition in the peloton.
If we look at the 2007 year at CSC we can see immediately why people tend not to like Mike Jensen. If you look apart from the 4 stage wins in La Vuelta CSC only managed to win 6 stages in Pro Tour races in the entire Pro Tour in 2007:
The year ended, and Jensen still had to convince the team's super star, Carlos Sastre, to stay for another year. The same applied for the popular German Jens Voigt, and in fact, Mike Jensen did not succeed in extending their contracts. Carlos Sastre decided to end his career, and Jens Voigt took Bobby Julich with him to T-Mobile. In general, CSC lost a lot of its established starts, also including TT-specialist David Zabriskie.
However, on the 31/10/07 it was finally announced that the team had found its new star: Tom Danielsen, the American super-talent. To help him in the mountains CSC had also secured Pieter Weening from Rabobank and Kim Kirchen, who, however, more will focus on supporting Frank Schleck in the hilly classics.
The team's most important riders are now:
The sponsors have also realised that the situation is pretty hopeless, and that has resulted in the goals being lowered so even Mike Jensen can complete them:
(Honestly, I DIDN'T change the goals myself )
More will follow later on. |

Wow.
Your goals look more like FDJeux's. I didn't know they could actually lower that drastically.
Good job on hiring Davis, Weening and Ignatiev.
This team is still capable. Bearing in mind that both Voigt and and Julich won't be any better in 2008 (suprise!) , losing them isn't all that bad.
PS:
I know most players prefer having a huge roster with ~35-40 riders.
But, I'd pick your neat and orderly team over a chaotic 40 man "equipe" any day.

I think I have around 26 riders at my team - and that's enough. I don't like to have riders who I don't use anyway - so yeah, I agree with you
Personally, I didn't mind losing Voigt and Julich either. I didn't even try to negotiate a new contract with them. To begin with I didn't want to extend with Sastre either, but since I - to start with - wasn't able to sign a new captain I tried renewing anyway. Without luck, though.
I really like to have a real sprinter at my team. It's really a great experience to see Davis beat the hell out of Boonen like he just did in Paris-Nice (in my save game) |

How did you not succeed in signing a new captain?
I finished first in the Continental Tour with Wiesenhof and it took me
like 20 tries (e-mails) to lure Gerdemann away from T-Mobile.
At one point I thought I wouldn't get him so I went for Gilbert as well.
Now guess what...

Wow - that is exactly the same goals I have with Wiesenhof in 2008.
Just too bad your squad is 10 times as good as mine |

Sorry about the delay on the story, by the way. I've been really focused on the Danish version, and I've also had a lot of other work to do with this site. A continuation will come sooner or later, though. |
