Columbia and we have this mountainous route which will be only for the hard men. The favourites are Ardilla, Uran and Serpa. To challenge them is the fact they have no teammates, while Duarte, Orozco and Montenegro have massive support and may well try and wear the favourites down with constant attacking.
Let the first of 12 laps begin
On lap two Montana and Montoya attack
On the next lap Duarte, Pedraza and Sarmiento just ride away
the five join up, although Yamaha are keeping them to just a minute ahead
and after 3 laps we are all together
Montana and Montoya attack again
although only Montana gets clear
Piamonte and Rodriguez ride off the front
Colombia pull them back
In doing so Rodas, Sarmiento and Rubiano Chavez go clear with the Yamaha riders
Colombia pull that back, not satisfied
They get away again though, without Rodriguez. Montana is 6 minutes ahead of them with 110km to go
Rubiano Chavez pulls away from the others, as they get caught by the peleton, who are being pulled by Colombia
Rodas and Piamonte pull clear of the peleton, who are slowly pulling back Montana, he has 5 minutes with 80km to go
70km to go and Rubiano Chavez is caught by the other two, they are only 30 seconds ahead of the peleton, with Montana still 5 minutes ahead.
Colombia shut down the break soon after
The big names start to work on the front and immediately they cause a split, Ardilla, Rodas, Uran, Serpa, Pedraza and Parra Bustamante
Colombia shut it down
Montana goes through the line with 2 laps and 36 km to go with a three minute lead on the peleton
Becerra kicks off the attacks in an effort to defend the jersey he won last year
Calderon, Rodas, Diaz Corrales and Montenegro follow
Serpa shuts down Rodas and Diaz Corrales
Now Ardilla takes over and he pulls Calderon and Beccara
Montenegro is clear and has almost caught Montana
26km to go Ardilla attacks, Uran, Serpa and Duarte follow
Ardilla, Uran and Serpa pass Montana
Uran gets a small gap
Serpa passes him now and tries to push on on the decent
Ardilla and Uran let him go, as Duarte, Pedraza and Suaza catch them
no one wants to chase and Serpa hits the final lap with a 50 second lead
Ardila and Duarte attack
Uran goes with them, as they close on Serpa at the base of the climb
They sit up again though, let Pedraza close and watch Serpa ride away
Ardila attacks again, 9km to go and Serpa's lead is at 50 seconds
Ardila gets nowhere as Uran makes a massive move
6km to go and Uran is closing, however he is running out of time
On the downhill and Serpa still has a decent gap
And he takes victory, he made his move at the perfect time and no one wanted to chase.
Ardila, Uran and Duarte are the three favourites today, although Ardila is a step below the other two
Duarte is an early starter and sets a time of 1'04"06
Uran starts slowly, 16 seconds behind at the first check point
and he's 21" down a check point 2, is this the last we will see of his nat champs jersey?
Ardila Cano goes second at +1'45"
Uran crosses the line 30 seconds down
Pedraza is the last rider who can challenge, however he can only come tenth, as Cafe Colombia took advantage of favourable conditions early to get 4 of the top 5.
