South African Championships 2011
SportingNonsense
It's a small field for the South African championships, but it should be an interesting race.

With 90km to go, some team tactics from Yamaha. Ranse van Rensburg - in his last races before returning to Wikipedia, having been loaned out this year - is clear with team leader Darryl Impey.

After Rensburg does his bit, Impey goes on alone - and leads by 3 minutes with 45km to go!

Thats only increasing, so with 40km to go John-Lee Augustyn has no choice but to attack.

Its still 2 minutes with 20km to go, but the gap is going down - the Red Bull rider came 59th in the Continental standings this season, Impey was 65th - so closely matched. The chase is on.

Its only between these two. Juan van Heerden, 8th in CT, can at best hope for 3rd.

We're closing on the finish though, and Impey can sense it. He keeps on going, and isnt going to be caught, he is the new South African champion!

2nd for Augustyn and van Heerden 3rd. Not Juan, but Christoff! The Pendletons sprinter was oddly weak in his sprint, only managing 5th

Having done his bit for Impey in the Road Race, Janse van Rensburg - 7th in the World U23 TT - may have hoped to do the double for Yamaha in the TT. But he'll have to wait a season or two until he can contend with James Lewis Perry - and the Pirelli rider takes the title
