Hey guys, new user here..I just started a brand new custom career from scratch in the continental ranks and am wondering with team and individual rider progress how long does it usually take to progress through the ranks and be invited to the coveted Tour De France??
When choosing my schedule..I have read other posts and how many race days riders should have..but is there certain races I should be aiming for in which a good result would help me advance more then a good result in another race?
Also how do you edit rider contracts? I have searched but could not figure out in game how to do this...
Final question..when I have a rider in the breakaway..and set on relay..I find he quite often does significant more work then the other riders in the group..is this just the way the game is set or is there something I can do about this? Especially if I would like to increase the pace of the breakaway is is possible to get others to work with you or will my rider be in front basically the rest of the way?
If you are new to the game I would recommend to play a big team first but it is up to you.
To progress to the Pro tour your team needs to be first or second best continental team in the CQ-rankings at the end of the season. This would secure you a place in all pro tour races. To get a wild card you need some luck and a good ranking as well. It helps to be a french team if you aim for wild cards for french races.
Race days: You can ride as many as you want but from 60 days on, the max possible fitness will decrease. It is possible to win races even with about 70 days but it is getting harder.
Races: Look at the race category. Higher categories give more points but it is harder to get a good result. Ride one day classics to get many points with little race days.
Contracts: You can contact your riders any time to prolong the contract. To sign new riders you have to wait until July.
Relay effort: You can reduce the effort of your rider. This will make him take shorter relays. If you set a very low effort, he will stop relaying at all. It all depends on the effort the other riders are riding. They might not help your rider if he is a better rider then they are.
It is not very likely that the breakaway will suceed if you have a rider in it, no matter how fast your rider is riding. I use this fact and send my riders in the breakaway so that I don't have to chase the breaks of the AI riders all the time. You can also use it to win some mountain points, because these count for the CQ-ranking as well (except for the lowest race category)

I have another question regarding Race categories..I see diff categories such as C1, T1, C HC, T HC, CTT etc..which ones are the most difficult? Which ones are easiest? Which ones give the most points toward my CQ ranking?
Just trying to plan my schedule for my custom team. Thank you
jere5000, you seem to be playing with the database, which came with the game. That database has wrong categorie codes and other strange spellings due to licence reasons.
The CQ-ranking would be called superprestige and to translate the codes into the official UCI codes you have to replace C with 1. and T with 2. (for example C1 would be 1.1). CTT stand for CyanideTopTour which means ProTour.
I recommend downloading and installing a real name database. That database has real team and rider names. Or go for the huge extended joy package and download 7GB of additional stuff like new races, teams and equipment.
