What a disaster for Santander yesterday, has this halted their possible promotion chances?

Santander’s loss if Bimbo Nutella’s gain and they have had an excellent first season in Professional cycling. Kenyan Samwel only has 5 seconds on Red Bull’s Kilun surely another change cannot happen!

The parcours for todays stage is lots of downhill, it does begin with 3 sprint primes and every single one of them is won by points leader Damian Martinez.

Martinez takes yet more points and bonus seconds

The Quiksilver rider is really beginning to move up deep into the top ten with this sprinting and is virtually confirming his points jersey. The top threes for each sprint were as follows:
Sprint 1: Martinez, Matthews, Colorado
Sprint 2: Martinez, Nizzola, Colorado
Sprint 3: Martinez, Craven, Colorado

The King of the Mountains prime could well have been a battle between the riders in 2nd (Mercado 59 KoM points, 3rd (Ortega 57 KoM points) and 4th (Zwizanski 57 KoM points). But it was Betencourt who took the full three points on the short 4th category bump ahead of Hernandez (Santander) and Petrov (Benfica).

The young Columbian did have the KoM lead but did not really go for the points in stage 3 and paid for it.

With the long downhill it was difficult for anyone to breakaway, not that anyone looked like they wanted to. It was all locked together for the sprint but once again no real sprint trains to observe and it was clear Bimbo Nutella were looking to control for Samwel.

2000m to go: Duran(Santander) takes a flier

The Santander rider is off the front with Craven just behind and Camano (Bimbo) and Riberio (Benfica) in 3rd and 4th. Beraud is leading out Samwel in 5th and 6th and that fact that a Control rider is in 7th place speaks volumes about how easy it is for them to control.

Seeing himself in a good place Dan Craven uses his TT skills to power forward in the next kilometre and overtakes Duran into the lead in the last kilometre.

Camano and Riberio are battling behind, Craven finds it difficult to maintain his speed and has to surrender his advantage. Teammate Camano is the fastest of the two behind and comfortably takes the win ahead of Riberio.

Bimbo Nutella’s morale must be sky high here, winning the TT, KoM Jersey, taking todays stage and leading the GC. Today they place six of their seven man squad in the top eight, moving their riders up in the points classification.
