The topsy turvy Chihuahua race has a rather unique up and down TT today.

We start with 2km of fairly steep uphill before a 6.5km of descent/flattish stuff before another tough 3.5km climbing section. The finish comes after a long descent for a total of 17.5km, not really a mountain Time Trial per se but not directly for the specialist TT men either.

Nethertheless it is Bimbo Nutella’s TT expert and KoM jersey wearer Dan Craven who sets a pretty formidable target.

The Namibian is a strange choice for this race, but thanks to his King of the Mountains tally looks like it is going to pay off for this very strong looking Bimbo Nutella team in this race. He started the day in 21st position at 7.23 to the race leader David Lopez Garcia.

Today’s mixture of Time Trialling and climbing looks to be right up most of the Bimbo Nutella’s alley, apart from maybe their GC leader Samwel who really does not enjoy Time Trials.

Another team who will feature heavily today is Sport Lisboa a Benfica, who to be honest have had a disappointing race so far, with their team of climbers you would have expected more riders in high positions. Colorado (18th on GC @ 6.52) and Camano (8th on GC @ 2.58) set some times to compare with Craven.

But the best representatives from these two squads were Vitor Rodrigues and Benfica’s big GC hope best youngster Florentino Marquez.

It is close but on the day Rodrigues gets the nod with the best time of the day ahead of Camano and then Marquez. However the later rider is in the heart of the GC battle, he is 1.24 back from Lopez Garcia that seems too much to pull back but only 32 seconds behind Roman Kilun.

The American is a tough cookie though and produces a pretty strong time of 23.40. The front two on GC Samwel and Lopez Garcia are not so good against the clock, Garcia is even worse than the Kenyan.

Kilun then clocked 23.40....

Samwel comes in at 24.13 losing 33 seconds of his 38 second advantage!

Lopez Garcia comes in at an even worse 24.19 (22nd on the day) meaning that he holds onto his GC lead but only just by 8 seconds on Samwel... get ready for a nervous three days!
