Does PCM lack depth?
cactus-jack
I enjoy PCM alot, mostly because it's the only cycling game out there (that I know of), but also because it's a pretty good game. The only thing that keeps my away from it is the lack of depth. Adding some records made it a little bit better, but it's still pretty "hollow" in my view.

The riders are nothing more than pixels with stats, every race feels the same, the game just doesn't have any personality.

Do you agree or is it just me?

Agreed. That's one of the reasons why I keep saying that the part of the game which needs a bigger improvement (this year's major fuck up in the AI aside) is the managerial.

Adding traits to each individual rider would help a lot too Smile

You would have wheel suckers like Hushovd or a lead out trait that would actually make riders like Renshew benifitial Pfft

The riders would actually have a personality

How is that supposed to effect the gameplay ?

Well you see, if someone has a lead-out trait like Renshaw or Dean they would be more likely to participate in the lead-out. Although PCM actually has that already, you just have to click it each time before a stage starts when you can choose your leaders and such.

Some sort of trait that makes it more likely a climber will go for the KOM more than the GC would be nice, so a rider like De la Fuente for example could have that.

A lead out trait could also give a bonus to the rider leading out making him a better lead out man than a rider without the trait Wink

There are many ways to implement the feature into the game, but it can also be pretty difficult. But if you want a realistic game, where the riders reflect their real life counter-parts, traits are necessary.

In PCM11, there's some sort of "personality likeness" / sponsor value. For example, a sponsor can ask you to sign Moncoutie, because he's a likeable guy. On the other hand, Karpets is a no-go.

I guess that's one step towards some sort of personality.

The managerial (spelling?) part of PCM has always been the biggest problem for me, as a lover of FM it's disappointing that the manager part is not better. Personality would be good, but more contact with the riders, better transfer system etc

A good thing would be "favored personal" like in FM, not only the part that CrueTrue says will be in 11, but also so that (as an example) Contador likes Navarro and Hernandez, so signing them would make him more happy. And maybe a small boost to riders helping a favored rider (so that Navarro will offer himself a bit more to get Contador up the mountain than for someone else).

Just an example of the top of my head.

Then again, I haven't even bought pcm10, will wait for 11 or 12 and when I got money for a better pc (living of my gf atm (A) )

Season programs for team leaders in pcm07 were really nice, but have been mistoriosly removed since that version.
