The penultimate stage, and to Santa Rosa we go - over the hills once again. A reminder, Pellizotti's win count in this race currently stands at 11/19.

An early breakaway goes clear - Semple and Beklov

They dont care about the intermediate sprint - Semple takes it - but behind Damian Martinez goes for it and takes 3rd. Belkov is 3rd overall in the KoM classification, but no threat overall, he does take climb 1 though. More important is behind. Brutt and Yasmani Martinez both beat Dupont, but 5th gives the Frenchman 6 points and he moves to just 1 point behind Delgado!

The lead of the breakaway peaked at 10 minutes, but wasnt going to be allowed to go any further. At 52km to go Belkov drops Semple and 8km later Semple is back into the peloton - Belkov still clear, by 3 minutes

Belkov takes KoM #2. Yasmani Martinez takes 2nd, Brutt 3rd - crucially Dupont has been dropped and does not score!

Delgado, Pellizotti and Petrov respond, the Italian soaring into the lead over the top

Delgado crosses 4th, but this is the least lucrative of the days 3 climbs, so he only extends his KoM lead to 2 points

Only Pellizotti stays clear, and once again this is ominous

Siutsou and Petrov do slip away slightly from the chasing peloton behind, but they as always, cant match Pellizotti. 12!

The battle for 2nd is interesting, not just for the stage, but for the points jersey - with Petrov and Kritskiy starting the stage on 311, Siutsou on 309. But its Siutsou 2nd today and moving into 2nd of the points classification with 1 stage to go - and Petrov fades to 4th behind his fast finishing teammate, Kritskiy.
