Welcome to South Africa for the Dome2Dome Cycling Challenge. Only 114 km long, but at the start it was raining and there was a lot of wind, this will certainly make things more interesting!
The top favorites at the bookies are Kennaugh, Van Heerden and Mohs. Let's see if one of them can pull it off.
We got a three man break: Selander, Ladagnous and Downing. With the short distance and the strong wind, we can't rule them out.
They know this in the peleton aswell, it's being lead mostly by 100% ME. The pace is pretty high though, some riders have problems keeping up.
And on one of the slightly uphill parts it happens. A BBox rider can't keep up with the pace and the split happens! Luckily no big favorite is caught in the split.
EL AL is struck the hardest. They only have 2 riders in the first group, and it's not Rast or Lagutin.
With 20km to go the break has a 1' gap on the pack. Ladagnous decides to go solo.
But with 5km to go, it's all over and it will come down to a sprint.
Weissinger is leading out Van Heerden, Ciolek and Kennaugh. Casper also has a good position near the front. Mohs is a little further back.
When the sprint starts, Van Heerden decides to go from far out. Ciolek and Kennaugh are liking this. Haedo is also near the front, and Mohs looks to be to far back.
With 1 km to go, Ciolek and Casper launch themselfs. Van Heerden is running out of energy.
Can Kennaugh come around Ciolek for the win? Surely, the German must be getting tired with this strong headwind.
No, Kennaugh dies in Ciolek's wheel. A deserved victory for the German after his mysterious abandon in Vattenfall. Van Heerden gets third.
Casper just holds on for fourth. Croket gets fifth and Mohs only comes in 6th.
