A bit soon to start this thread, I know, but I felt like opening this thread was better than to keep posting in the old one.
Anyway, back on topic, Robert Kubica crashed today, while he was racing the Rally Di Andora, hitting a church's wall, and has multiple fractures. According to the Gazzetta, he might even lose the movility of his right hand.
Hope this ends well for Robert.

Yeah, I read it about Kubica. They talked of amputating his right hand, but he should keep it. He's between surgeons hands until 8:00 pm.
I hope he'll get well soon. Not that I like him much, but still... Most likely Bruno Senna will be his replacement for the next tests and the first G.P., unless Lotus Renault GP signs Heidfeld or Hulkenberg.
More generally, it seems Red Bull will be one step ahead this season again. Yes, I know : testing means nothing.

Awful news about Kubica. Possibly the best out there and certainly one of the best. Let's hope he'll drive again.
I really hope Renault get Heidfeld in, rather than have Senna partnering Petrov. |

That's preety bad. Just hope he recovers from the crash and doesn't need an amputation.
Anyway, for replacement of Kubica, if he misses the first race, I'd rather want Heidfeld or Hulkenberg. Senna doesn't seem to be the right choice. |

Kubica has now undergone surgery and it will be late 2011 before we even know if he'll ever move his hand.
Bruno Senna is about 99.9% sure to be his replacement.
This is, at the very least, interesting, considering the Renault has showed so far in testing to be the fastest car by a ridiculously huge margin.
The fastest car with two average drivers? I'll die laughing is Senna or Petrov end up being world champion (unlikely)

Same. A very nice guy in a series that unfortunately currently has a grid populated with quite a few jackasses.
Also, someone who has the talent to be a WC one day. If he recovers, that is.

Yep. Kubica has often shown soem great pace, just never had the right car. And this year, although its far too soon to tell, Renault may just have delivered with a top car.
He's been one of my favourites drivers for a while (behind Button), and it did seem like only a matter of time before it all worked out for him. And now, that may never happen.

Picture of Kubica's car after the crash. Notice the hole, where the armco have gone through. He is lucky to be alive.

I'm still trying to comprehend how the armco can literally go THROUGH a car...

Kubica is nice ? I don't know him personally, or anything like that, but from a couple of interviews I've read or heard from him, he's more like a super pro who's interested in nothing than himself (and his job). I wish I could find the links again, but Windows won't dig inside my MSN history.
Renault's main advantage is their "reverted exhaust", but that'll be copycatted quite soon (McLaren and another team are already working on something similar according to rumours). I wonder if there's much work setting it up for a full efficiency. |

Rehabilitation may take up to a year
Palm, partially crushed, was vascularised and fractures, among other legs have been set - such information is released from the hospital in Pietra Ligure, where after seven hours of surgery ended Formula 1 driver Robert Kubica.

It's the same principle that means a needle can puncture while a punch will "only" bruise. The force is all applied on a very small area, instead of being distributed by a large area.

Sucks for Kubica, but he can be grateful. It seems that he'll be able to drive again, even if it takes a while, and it's the second time he saves his life after a nasty crash. |

I thought that the armco had gone trough only the front of Kubica's car, but not the whole car!

In rally terms: It isn't a horoble crash. The only factor what makes the crash really nasty is the armco which went trough the car.
