It's time for the final sprint to the line. Only 2 months left to go, and still a lot of points to be earned. This is the first of many classics left. It starts in Slovenia and ends in Croatia.
While it's officially a hilly race, the course is more suited for those that can climb among the puncheurs. Although the last climb of the race is perfect for puncheurs, some of their strength might already have been sapped following the rather long climb leading to the final.
While the field isn't extremely large, there are quite a few top names present. Gilbert, Ginanni, Efimkin, Cobo, Monfort, Gil, ... But like i said, Cobo, Gil and especially Efimkin are very likely to put down a good performance here. Although you can never count out the likes of Gilbert (and i would say Ginanni, but he just sucks atm. )
Prediction:
1. | Aleksandr Efimkin | 2. | Koldo Gil | 3. | Maxime Monfort | 4. | Juan José Cobo | 5. | Philippe Gilbert |
Efimkin is the absolute favorite for me. Riding close to home, and this being the ideal terrain for him. Lego has a very strong team here, and have a good shot of getting up to 3 riders in the top 10. Cobo has had a good season and showed he can win in both the mountains and the hills. I'm afraid Gilbert will lose to much energy on the big climb to be a threat in the sprint. This is of course, if it comes down to a sprint, as it might aswell split up on the big climb.

Kami: I see why you said it would be close for Bacardi - they are outclassed here a top 10 would be a miracle.
Also you have forgotten the rule of CTour this year, though for art thou IKEA must make a top five.
I think Gil to win this though looks like a mountain/hilly one.

I need a top 3 here, Cobo should be able to do that

Yea, luckily it's not an HC race, although 80 points is a lot, it's not the end of the world yet. Will be a miracle though if i would top 10 here.
My closest competitors who are still active (Pendletons, UBS and Milka (i would consider Santander aswell, but their big guns are almost out of race days and srry mb, but Ventoso is sucking and raced strangely.)) will score some good amount of points though (well, Pendleton, Milka and Santander ).

Yeah, don't worry, you 4 have me beat, barring a miracle

Looking at the profile, it wouldn't surprise me if the mountain stat plays enough of a role in the race to count Ginanni out (again). We shall wait and see.
However it's set, I'm sure the AI will have him as a favourite, and Vespa will work and Ginanni will flop. |

Yeah, Hermans will also not be very good here. I'm hoping instead that Cataldo/Nocentini attack in the first early wave and manage to get, and stay, away. |

Interested to see how it goes. Gilbert may lose out if there's a consistently high pace on that long climb but, if we're lucky, it'll hold steady and he'll be amongst the attacks over the top. |

I hope in the win here. I need the win to stay in the competition. But more realisticly I'll be satisfied with the podium too.

So am i, but with his very limited amount of race days, i had to make choices. I opted for Garda and Milano Torino (for the nationality bonus) instead of this race.
Also, like most other managers, some of my race line-up are a bit strange. Mostly the last part of my season, where i have both Ricco and Kirchen in the same races, where it isn't rly needed (Emilia and Japan Cup).

Kami, are you confusing the Balkans for the Baltics! I though Slovenia/Croatia were nearer Italy than Russia...
Favourites come together, I wouldn't have thought that was going to happen. No doubt Kami you are regretting Kirchen not being here instead of playing domestique in October
By the way Kami and everyone I have the Canadian Classics and GP Walloone planned for Thursday and Friday of this week, previews will be with you on Tuesday.

Eastern - Europe, all the same . Nah, it was the favorite who was most related to Croatia . My Croation (Danculovic) obviously sucked.
Yea, like i said, Kirchen should have been raced a bit differently at the end of the season.
And, i'll be bringing you Vattenfall and Dome2Dome around the same time as Smowz.

WTF was Ginnani doing there?
Only way I can see Gil dropping him on a climb, is if he's off form.
Then that finish - sheer stupidity. |

Sorry, did Wiggle ride here? I think I now remember why Herman's probably wasn't originally down to ride here. It's mountainous. Another shit stupid thing to do to a hilly race - making it "mountainous".
*grumbles a lot* |

Not the best race for me, only 4th place. But not that bad as well, at least I got some points..
And Kami, Russia is waaaay far from Croatia. For example, the Belgium is nearer..
