A couple of vicious hills towards the end mean this could end the GC hope of our 3 premier sprinters, they are still given the favourites tag, but should the peleton hit the hills at pace I wouldn't bet against local darlings Roche or Martin trying something

It's a misserable day, with driving rain, yet the peleton gets underway perfectly on schedule

Guillen, Forero and Brown go through the sprint, as still no one who can benifit from the bonus second even tries

Veilleux, Gavazzi and Van Heerden attack, and as all 3 are tied for the lead of the mountains jersey, the 3 slimbs will be hotly contested today

Veilleux gets the jump on his compaions to take climb one, Van Heerden just sneaking second

These 3 are evenly matched so it really will be who is tactically best and at climb 2 Van Heerden wins, Veilleux second and Gavazzi 3rd, meaning Gavazzi is now 3 points behind the other 2 riders


Gavazzi wins the final climb, but it's Van Heerden who will be happiest, his second place giving him the jersey

Through the sprint it's Veilleux ahead of Gavazzi and Van Heerden, the break has 1'48" with 32km to go
