Stage 2 then, 100% Me will be keen to get on the winners board - and perhpas Festina will take more responsibility now they have the race lead.
Of early break attempts, Pidun and Nerz do the best of early attacks and lead closing in on the first sprint, Bernaudeau and Matthews are closing in though and it looks the Frenchman might nick it. No, he's 3rd. Nerz takes the sprint ahead of Pidun - who is looking to bounce back from his crash on the first stage.
Now we get a breakaway, Lund, Navid, Battaglin, McEvoy, Cruz, and Cronshaw. Cruz takes the 2nd sprint from Lund and Navid
Onto the KoM. McEvoy takes it from Navid and Lund. Having picked up a point yesterday, this takes McEvoy into the KoM lead.
Its a one man chase today, Bernaudeau doing the work for Festina
The final sprint goes to Lund, from Battaglin and Cruz
The break splits up, and onto the final climb Cronshaw is alone. He takes the points, with Battaglin 2nd, Roe chasing 3rd to keep himself in a joint lead, fails, just.
Cronshaw is caught shortly after, as Tyler Brandt attacks away from the peloton
And hello, what's this? Madrazo is attacking! Copeland and Viviani also countering.
As is so often the case, the last to attack goes furthest. So in this case it is Viviani and Copeland
But where's Santander? Madrazo getting a gap here and the team on the front are the Free Agents team! Vingerling up there too, Kennaugh locked in on his wheel, Cohen, Harvey and Manarelli also
Yet having gotten a gap, Viviani and Copeland falter. Madrazo and Brandt get back to them
Of the 4 leaders, Viviani is the best sprinter. He is also leading out, and waits until 2km to go
Irishman Bennett has moved to the head of things now with Blythe (in Green) and Kennaugh now in this line. They need to go early though, and may already be leaving it too late
Madrazo and Brandt make their moves up front, as Kennaugh and Blythe lead the chase
Its like a slow motion sprint up front, Madrazo and Brandt can make no progress on Viviani - and Kennaugh and Blythe are going 10 km/h faster. Theyre leaving it tight for the stage, but theyre saving Santander's bacon GC wise.
And Viviani holds on, he wins the stage! 2nd for Madrazo, some useful time bonus there, while Kennaugh and Blythe face a missed opportunity. Could and should have been 1-2. Instead it is 5-6.
