I cannot view the exported results. The .xls file is not working in OpenOffice, and I don't have MS Office or MS Works.
When I try to open the file, OOO3 opens a pop up asking which Character set to use (I spotted it's UTF-8), and which separators etc.
I cann't work out which options to set, and always end up with 6K+ lines all in one column wide:

It's looks more like an .xml file, but I can't open it with Firefox, and I don't have an HMTL editor installed on this PC.
Can anyone help please?

It's a stage, does that make a difference?
I'm playing a new custom team on the continental circuit.
The file is called G.P. Costa degli Etruschi_San Vicenzo - Donoratico.xls and the info under the file name says: Microsoft Excel 97-2003 Worksheet
I have another file called Tour Méditerranéen_La Ciotat - Toulon (Mt. Faron).xls and I can't open that either.
Not saved any more as I didn't see the point if I can't view them

I'll DL that and give it a whirl - Thanks CrueTrue.
I'm disappointed though, as OOO has opened all the accounts files from the office before, and is supposed to be MS compatible.
Edit:
Got the viewer - right clicked the file and said to open in viewer.
new pop up "Mircosoft Excel Viewer cannot open files of this type"
I've attached both files to see if anyone else can view them

Thanks,
Well that opens it at least, but then I'm stuck.
Rows and rows and rows of HTML, no style sheet associated with it etc. etc.
It's a bloody mess to be honest! Why oh why did they create such a daft thing. A bog standard .xls file without all the .xml would have been fine, or even a .txt file!
Frustrated of London, signing off....
Edit:
here's what I'm looking at
Line 10, Location of components - I think that needs editing!
Can anyone else view the exported results I attached above?

Well, for everyone with MS Office, it's possible to easily view the files as they are supposed to look.
I'm not very familiar with Open Office, making it a bit difficult to help properly.
Your best shot is to download a few xml viewers, hoping that one of them can show the files properly (= not in the 'coded' format, as you see above). |

If you can all view the files with the standard MS Office (which costs over £100 for student edition and Over £200 for home office), then why can't I view it with the MS Excell Viewer?
Odd.
BTW - I just tried to DL the trial version of MS Office student (try free for 60 days), It wants all my CC details, so that's not happening!
I have OpenOffice for the same reason that most do, It's free and works 99% of the time. It's only some old files it has issues with. In this case, it's the location of the worksheet file is blank, and the stylesheet is defined as
schemas-microsoft-com:office:office
I wonder if it opens with MS Works?
Thinking whether I should try and find an old copy of MS Office 2003 for a dodgy DL just for this!

I got old of an old copy of MS Office 2003, and installed only the Excell part of the package.
I have no idea why the Excell view open it. |

OOOH!!
here's how to do it in OpenOffice.
Rename the file from *.xls to *.xml
That changes it from an MS workbook to a XML doc which OpenOffice can read!
Whoop whoop!
Uninstalling my dodgy copy of MS Office right now!

That's very odd - worked fro me.
What version of OpenOffice do you have? Mine is 3.1
You could try this, copy the *.xls file, past it somewhere else and rename it *.ods
ie you have a file called Tour of Oman_Nizwa – Samail.xls, you copy paste it to another folder (so you don't destroy the original), and you rename it Tour of Oman_Nizwa – Samail.ods and OO calc should open that easily.
I attached one I did that with, so you can see if your OO can read it
edit
Sorry, I had to rename it again to Tour_of_Oman_Nizwa–Samail.ods as the attachment won't work if there are spaces in the file name. Attached now.
edit 2
Grrr, *.ods not allowed in files types, zipped it with Winrar.
3rd time lucky
Edit
Stilll no joy, renamed it again!

Thank you!
Been downloading about 10 different xl viewers now, without sucess, and all I needed to do was to rename the file, great news.
