Tour de Beauce - Stage 5
SportingNonsense
After the time trial, its Stage 5 and the first of 3 consecutive hilly criteriums - today's being the shortest, and less testing route. But still, the battle will be very interesting. Kessiakoff leads Larsson by only 10 seconds, while both Cobo and Grabovski lie within 50 seconds of the race leader - Cobo perhaps likely to be the biggest threat on the hills.

We get a 2 man break today - Meersman and Capecchi

Dionne and Weiss attack off in pursuit with just 26km to go

4th overall Grabovski is the first of the favourites to blink, with 13km to go, only to be brought back soon after along with Dionne and Weiss

10km to go and Cobo attacks - and he sure does get a gap
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/CTC1/beauce66.jpg

Stetina leads the pursuit with Kessiakoff, Raisin, Larsson, and a little later, Ruijgh

Cobo rides past the breakaway duo with 5km to go, Kessiakoff now in a solo pursuit
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/CTC1/beauce68.jpg

He still leads into the final 2 kilometres - but with Capecchi and Meersman now sprinting it out, his lead may not yet be safe - but his gap to those 2 wont worry him too much
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/CTC1/beauce69.jpg

Kessiakoff however is also closing up to Cobo, while behind him, its Larsson, Raisin, Stetina and Ruijgh

Into the final kilometre, Cobo must now fight for this stage win
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/CTC1/beauce71.jpg

But while he is stronger on the hills than Meersman and Capecchi, his sprinting legs are no match
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/CTC1/beauce72.jpg

Eros Capecchi wins the stage! Cobo only manages 3rd - and with Kessiakoff getting the same time - it's only an 8 second timebonus gain for him today
i806.photobucket.com/albums/yy344/DailyManGame2011/CTC1/beauce73.jpg

Larsson win the sprint for 5th - but a 40 second loss grants some breathing space to his fellow Swede - while a fast sprinting Lorenzetto in 9th means this group of 4 gains nothing for their efforts

So, good day for Kessiakoff - but not perfect for Telenor. 11th overall Noval crashes out of the race at just 1km to go.
