Stage 1 here in Canada, its mostly flat
No attacks by the first sprint, so first chance for the sprinters. Bongiorno takes it from Florencio and Guerao
Now to the KoM, and a surprising victor - race favourite Kessiakoff. Stetina comes in 2nd, ahead of Ruijgh and Canadian Dionne.
But back to the sprinters in shot 2. We can see Capecchi leading Bongiorno; Guldhammer leading Florencio; Baumann leading Sinner; Kupfernagel leading Westling; Serrano leading Guerao; and Bahati leading Friedman
Bongiorno wins the sprint again, this time from Westling and Sinner
75km to go and finally attack! But what on earth ... it's Kessiakoff again!
The next KoM is not for the another 30km, so this seems like a peculiar move by the rider down as 3rd favourite for the overall GC in the race.
Of course when that KoM comes, Kessiakoff takes it and the jersey. 3 and a half minute later Stetina takes 2nd, again ahead of Ruijgh. Theres 44km to go
That climb also had an impact on sprinters - Bongiorno, Westling and Bahati are dropped,
Its a Telenor 1-2 at the final sprint of the day. Kessiakoff first, and Florencio 2nd some time later. Guerao is 3rd
Kessiakoff continues to go strong - still with a 2 minute lead at 10km to go. Suddenly, this move looks set to be very profitable!
Its still 1 minute 30 with 5km to go, and he has his teammates on the front
The sprinters left - Florencio, Guerao, Friedman and Sinner - congregate behind Guldhammer. The young Dane promptly goes backwards - a cunning plan by Telenor to limit time that Kessiakoff might lose when the peloton sprints?
Because by now, there is no doubt on the winner. Fredrik Kessiakoff rides in off a solo 75km ride to take the stage and race lead - firmly planting himself as a strong contender in this race!
It's High Road's team leader next, De Greef taking 2nd - and limiting Kessiakoff's gain to 33 seconds. Santander's Hernandez Gutierrez is 3rd, ahead of Noval and Colex
