A high quality field has turned up for the Tre Valli Varesine, it may not be a HC race anymore, but it sure feels like it. Last year we saw the big guns all wait until the final hill right at the end, Gilbert went first, and he won it - beating Ginanni, Valverde, Gil and Trofimov.
The Belgian is back to defend his title, but faces tough competition from the Italians. Favourite Riccardo Ricco is supported for Kirchen (9th last year), while Ginanni is back, looking to avenge his dissapointment of last years result - he was strongest in the final km, but came from too far back. Filippo Pozzato should be up there, although usually prefers flatter finishes to the hilly races, while Simone Ponzi is sure to improve on his 32nd place from 2010.
Elsewhere, Alex Efimkin is in form, while Monfort, Roux and Kolobnev have each had their moments this season. While Nocentini, Bettini, Bertagnolli, Leukemans, Froome and Roche have all Top 10'd here in the past 2 editions.

I actually wonder how it will go for the teams with more then one leader. Either it comes down to a 'masssprint' like last year. Or one of the secondary leaders attacks and gets away.

Although actually, the heavy snow has come earlier than anticipated, so that delays going home, so the race will almost certainly be up later today

I'm unbelievably happy with that. I rly didn't think that would have been pulled of.
First Ricco looked to be pulling away, but then the return of Ponzi rly got me worried. Especially loved this shot:
