The small hilly nation welcomes the Continental riders for a five stage tour of its nation. Somehow four lengthy stages have been squeezed out of it, the most testing parcours probably on stage 4. Each day should see the hilly men try something though because there are plenty of complications in place.
Unfortunately the interest in the Tour of Luxembourg is small, but the teams that have been sent here have got some really great riders.
Kirchen of Bacardi is probably the first name to come to attention as he is first in the list. But the inform rider is in his home country and the parcours look like they suit his style.
His big rivals are probably Alex Efimkin (Milka), Vasili Kirylenka (Tinkoff) and Simone Ponzi (Wiggle).

If things don't go bad i have a good chance of winning this. It does surprise me to not see riders like Cobo, Schumacher, Monfort, ...
Although, Wiggle has a strong team here though. And Efimkin is better than Kirchen on the hills, but i hope Kirchen won't lose any time there. Breaks might be the biggest danger.

To me Lego missed the boat on this one, given they went to a race like Tachira earlier on in the season also... then again maybe they thought the field here would be hot and they didn't get the best success at Euskel Bizikla.
I suppose UBS and Santander have other options in stage races... Cillit Bang well they probably would have sucked anyway!
Anyway all the more for the five teams here to enjoy! |

I thought here will be really strong competition as like in any HC race but I'm really happy I was wrong!
I hope Alex Efimkin can beat Kirchen and Ponzi here. And then, I hope for big intake of the points, it will be probably really funny race.

Stage win is very nice to start of with, Kirchen immediatly in the leader's jersey. However, after looking to last years results, the biggest danger might come from Ponzi with his higher sprint stat (although Kirchen isn't to bad either).
Good performance by Bagdonas as well. One of my better "other" riders. A bit under performing by Smukulis though.

Vespa skipped it because of the TT on stage one. No way I was having Ginnani riding in support of another 'team leader' on stage 2.
If the TT had been the end of the race, I'd probably have taken the chance.
Not related to this, but I think a team like Vesuvio should have a team at this race. I've suggested it before - the Pro Tour teams should be able to mix a little with the Conti teams in their home races. |

I have had these thoughts too, but it raises some questions:
1) What would Vesuvio gain from this?
2) Would the other teams race it knowing that they had to face Vesuvio?
3) Would Vesuvio have to use up race days?
It seems like a good idea to give Protour teams a chance to race in these sorts of races, but I am not sure the Continental tour would work very well if you had Pro Tour teams in some but not all c1 races.
I will post a slight variation on this suggestion in the ideas forum and wait for a combination of SotD, rjc and SN to shoot it down in flames  |

Good stage for Efimkin, 2nd place is much higher than I expected. Stage 3 looks like a easy win for Trussov or Ponzi. I see I probably had to bring a sprinter here..

Such a small race, such a "strong" team, and such a poor result. Shows you just how the AI works, pile a race with a leader, one co-leader, and 4 absolute dog ass domestiques, and you'll win. Pile it with 6-8 strong riders, and all you'll get is the one "best" rider trying to do everything, and fail. |
