After two consecutive wins it will be very interesting to see if Cancellara will be able to follow the puncheurs in today's hilly stage and defend the yellow jersey.
In case that Cancellara won't be able to follow the best on the final hills of the day, Gesink and Pluchkin are the main favorites to take over the yellow jersey from the Swiss riders, both less than half a minute behind him in the GC
Four riders made it into the day's main breakaway: Schadlich, Aistrup, Jeannesson and Bontenackels
Schadlich won the first intermediate sprint of the stage, which also marked the biggest advantage that the escapes had over the pack, somewhere around 7 minutes
As soon as the road started going up, Schadlich found himself in trouble and he wasn't able to continue with the other 3 escapes in the front group.
Aistrup was first at the top of the first climb of the day. The Falcon rider also won the second intermediate sprint of the day
On the following climb, Jeannesson took the race on his own, being clearly the strongest climber from the group but the pack was coming faster and faster behind him
The Frenchman didn't survive the third climb of the day and he was caught by the pack, missing the chance to take the KoM jersey from Mugerli
At the top of the climb, we had some interesting attacks from the GC favorites. Gesink and Luis Leon Sanchez were in the lead at the top but they were soon brought back in the pack
On the flat section, Menchov and Karpets tried their chance. And they got a nice advantage, over 30 seconds, behind the last hill of the day
But the Russian duo didn't last either, and they were caught on the final uphill section of the day.
At the top of the climb, Castano was forcing the pace but the other strong riders were coming right behind him, including the yellow jersey wearer, Fabian Cancellara
Once again the gaps were made after the climb's end, with 3 riders this time leading the race: Brajkovic, Sinkewitz and Pluchkin
Between them and the pack, a chasing group of 8 riders was made: Cancellara, Karpest, Summerhill, Mugerli, Efimkin, Gesink, Castano and Nibali
The riders in front extended their lead on the downhill, but as soon as the flat section came, the chasers started to gain back some of the time lost.
And with the final kilometer of the stage in sight, Nibali managed to make the jump from the chasing group to the leading one
The sprint started with Sinkewitz in the lead, Pluchkin right behind him, while Brajkovic in the third position and Nibali a little bit too far behind to help him
Nibali caught the leaders at the 1 kilometer banner, but both of the Domina Vacanze riders were at the back of the group and they weren't able to help each other too much, while Pluchkin was preparing his move
And Pluchkin's move came with 500 meters before the finish line, the only one able to follow him being Brajkovic
Pluchkin takes the stage win as he tries to become the first rider that wins in Romandie two years in a row. Brajkovic and Sinkewitz follow him on the podium, but did the B&O rider enough for the yellow jersey?
Even though he surprisingly lost the polka dot jersey to Efimkin, Mugerli made a very good race and he brought the chasing group into the same time as Pluchkin, which meant that Cancellara will be able to keep his jersey
In the closing kilometers of the stage, there were a few crashes in the pack. Luis Leon Sanchez and Gerdemman were involved and after losing more time than what they were expecting, they both lost their chances for a good overall placing
