Well we are nearly there and yesterday was hard day in the wind, everyone was relieved when they woke up to find a more normal humid but still day in Malaysia. Pokerstars without any climbing personal will surely be busting a gut to get Mohs back in the points jersey competition.
We also have a small climb today and if Dviri (El AL) wants to finish in Polka Dots he could do with nipping up the road and taking some more points because its unlikely he is going to win on the 15 point Genting Highlands stage.
We have a very early sprint and nobody dared disturb the sprinters as they went for points...
The sprint pack at it again
The pokerstars duo are in a good place here with UBS, Pirelli and Telenor with promising trains. Bimbo a little off pace and perhaps lethargic after yesterdays win, allow Mohs to get away from them. He would take the sprint once again, with Richeze (UBS) and Loddo (Pirelli) squeezing out the yellow jersey.
Mohs begins the journey back.
This cuts Van Avermart's GC lead to 10 seconds and his points lead on Mohs to 20 points. It may not be significant if the Belgian can get his act together by the end of the day. He would certainly be helped if a break could get away, which a 3 man one duly did not long after the early sprint.
Three riders try their luck
Tomorrow is mountains day so perhaps the break will be given the stage win, the group contain Kristoff (UBS), Ziegler (Yamaha) and Cassidy (Vespa). Its been an active tour for young Cassidy and Kristoff has shown his jersey a couple of times, we always expect attacks from the Yamaha team! El - Al seem to have missed it for Dviri, he will keep his KOM jersey today, but tomorrow will be tricky to hold onto it. The break sweeps up all the bonuses sharing the spoils equally between them Ziegler and Kristoff take a sprint a piece whilst Cassidy takes the KOM points.
Will the break have a group hug after the stage is over?
With 25km to go the lead is just 1 minute and evapourating fast, hold onto your hats everybody we are going to get our 5th sprint finish. The trains are not forming easily with 5,500 meters to go we have this situation with Mercedes leading a train to the right and Pirelli next door. It Unicredit on the far left.
Who's going to get this one?
Behind the Baumann/Sinner Mercedes train we have Griepal (big disappointment so far), Van Avermart )in Yellow and the Telenor duo of Sabatini and Brown. It's not particular well set and teams well know a late forming train seems to be the best way so the situation at 3km is more clear...
Five trains to spot!
Mercedes on the far left with Van Avermart, Pirelli are next door with Westling (IKEA), Greipal (Bbox), Brown (Telenor) and Van Poppel (Unicredit). Pace Snake is fading in the middle, right next door we have Red Bull train, ahead of them is the Pokerstars train with Crocket (Petronas) on the wheel. But the team ahead is the Unicredit train with Borrajo/Borghesi and the UBS duo behind. Its clear that the left hand side has a slight advantage, as the sprint starts Unicredit/Pokerstars/Crocket move forwards.
Borghesi leads...
Mercedes in the right are holding their own, the Red Bull train is also doing okay with Impey (Yamaha) storming through to one side. UBS are in an okay place too, but Mohs is near the front and this is dangerous if he still has his top speed. The Pokerstars man knows all too well that a stage win would put him back in yellow and also well it's nice to actually win a stage!
700m to go
Its Mohs with Crocket in his slipstream, Borghesi beginning to fade then Haider Anauwar, Richeze, Loddo, Westling and Impey. The Mercedes train with Van Avermart have really faded away. None of these riders will not catch the Pokerstars man and finish in the order listed above!
Great win for Pokerstars.
Mohs takes the GC lead and with Van Avermart fading to 27th and out of the points today the whole Mohs/Van Avermart situation has flipped on its head. They'll be battling each other in the autobus tomorrow however!
