The sprintfest will surely continue into day three, Mohs and Van Avermart seem like they are going to be battling to Genting for the Yellow jersey. But Petronas showed that with a well timed sprint train manoeuvre you can get in front of those two.
Not much chance it would seem for a breakaway then...
After a while a rider who attacked from the gun on the first day decided that he would chance his arm on this 163 km day...
Cieran Cassidy will be impressing folk back home.
No-one else was interested in joining the Irishman as we saw a long lone breakaway on this quiet stage. Of course this now created a battle for time bonuses on the primes. We also should remember that Van Avermart and Mohs look in prime position for the sprint jersey overall and its close there too. So at sprint prime one, Cassidy would take 1st but proper sprint trains would be formed for the battle for second...
Pokerstars is the sprint bus of choice.
Galdos (Santander) is behind the familiar Holloway/Mohs duo with Dockx leading out Van Avermart behind. The Telenor duo of Sabatini and Brown is not the favoured train and once again fails to deliever... Its Mohs who gets 2nd but Van Avermart is hot on his wheels.
Mohs reduces VA GC lead by 2 seconds.
This places Mohs 4 seconds behind the Belgian on GC and one point behind him on points. The Bimbo team know they have to pull their fingers out here and have the better position going into the second prime.
Chocolate spread team strike back
Galdos is taking his position of chief wheelsucker here! However Pokerstars are not done in this prime, Holloway battles back to bring Mohs level.
Return of the greenies...
When the sprint is launched, its the German sprinter who's the fastest. Van Avermart just hangs on to 3rd and his GC lead by 2 seconds. Mohs becomes the points leader by one point! We must not forget our breakaway man, he has taken the 'win' in the first two primes and with 5 km to go he has 51 seconds to get to the last.
C'mon Cieran do it for fenian!
Unfortunately Cassidy is completely cooked, is dying 1000 deaths, way into the red zone etc. As we appoach the final bonuses, Pokerstars have Mohs in a great position once again. This time the challenge will be from Mercedes Baumann/Brea double.
Van Avering a nightmare...
Brea is not really fast enough to stop the obsessed German taking the sprint. Its Loddo of Pirelli who comes through to take 3rd, Van Avermart can see his Yellow jersey slipping from his shoulders.
Poker hand.
The finish closes in and as we come into the last 3000 metres its UBS who seem to have timed things nicely.
Forster and Richeze duo leading the way
The two pokerstars riders in 3rd and 4th are NOT the expected duo, Mohs is behind Loddo and Red Bull sprinter Sutton. These guys are Engoulvent and Terpstra, its Brown on his own behind them. To the left of Brown is the Red Bull train of Beppu/Haider Anuawar with Impey on its wheel. This last train proves promising as it draws up to the UBS one.
Chance for Haider or Impey?
But Richeze realises the danger and comes out from being Forsters slowing wheels, with a devestating kick blasts away from the home favourite Haider Anuawar and Yamaha's South African.
Game over
Mohs is coming through for 4th and will be new GC/Points leader and Van Avermart is there in 5th, amazing that these rivals can still sprint nearly to podium! This stage caps off another well timed sprint train as UBS respond to Petronas gauntlet.
Perfect Argentinian beef
