This stage race now surely becomes the domain of sprinters as teams will look to perfect their sprint trains. Yesterday proved a good day for Greg Van Avermart, though he didn't really use a train in a choatic sprint. Eric Mohs (Pokerstars) looked fast also, but had to come from too far back. No doubt the team manager had words with the lead out riders.
The flatter parcours will surely mean today that Richeze (UBS) and Greipal (Bbox) will challenge better as they seemed to have no gas in yeasterdays sprint.
Also having a nice day out yesterday was this man...
Israel man in polka dots
El Al do not need to worry about the next three stages they are pan cake flat, Dviri with 13 points will look to snag some more perhaps to win the competition out right on stages 5 and 6. With three sprint primes out on course it will have suited the team of current race leaders that four riders went clear. The main instigator was Gavazzi of Vespa.
Vespa man with 3 companions in distance.
The other three riders were finding the Vespa man difficult to track down.
Three amigos
The trip comprises of Priamo (Yamaha), Bodrogi (Unicredit) and Te Brake (Telenor) but amusingly they cannot seem to catch Gavazzi. He will take the first two sprint bonifications comfortably. The peleton though are calm about this and are led by the Bimbo team.
Hofland is pulling the breakaway riders back.
With 50 km to go the gap from Gavazzi to the peleton is 4 minutes. But this is reduced quickly as Pokerstars and Pirelli give a hand to get this back to just 37 seconds with 27.5 km to go till the finish and only 5 to go until the sprint prime. The other three riders have been caught and spat out the back! So with the sprint prime coming soon, the sprinters are alert and looking for time bonuses!
hungry sprinters eye up bonus
Mohs(pokerstars) has been led out well by Dan Holloway in the white young riders jersey, also present here is UBS, Mercedes and Pirelli. Van Avermart in yellow is fair ways back and not going to make it. Its Mohs who once again looks very fast as he takes it...
The green flash
Loddo (Pirelli) is second and Sinner (Mercedes) is third. The sprinters go back to the safety of the peleton and look now to reform with their leadout buddies as we enter the end of stage sprint. All eyes are on Mohs and Van Avermart. The Pokerstars train (Holloway/Mohs)does not disappoint as it takes the far right of the road... Its Yamahas train with De Fauw/Impey that have their wheel with Dockx/Van Avermart behind that.
eyes to right.
Also with isolated trains is UBS double (Forster/Richeze), Telenor (Sabatini/Brown) and Pirelli (Paulini/Loddo). Bboxs double on the far left seem a bit apart its Gottfried and Griepal once again having trouble! Fast forward now to 2.4 km to go....
Petronas go through
Its Petronas double Awang/Crocket who have come from nowhere as the Pokerstars double obviously tired from sprint prime effort fade. Gottfried is actually leading here, Greipal is not in picture though. Van Avermart is moving menacingly through the middle and yes the Telenor train is pulling Brown to good place too. With 1,500 metres to go Awang pulls over for sprint captain Crocket.
who is going to win?
You can see Van Avermart has slotted ahead of Mohs and Loddo (pirelli) us challenging with Galdos (santander) behind him. Gottfried has a good placing on the left but he will fade! Under the 1km banner into the final 700 metres...
Petronas man holding off favoured pair
Crocket seems to be matching the stage one winner Van Avermart, Mohs just doesn't have the strength to come around. He is at least holding the wheel. The others are scurrying around for 4th. Coming into the line though a good win for high flying Petronas...
Nothing Crock about this guy
Van Avermart maintains a good lead in yellow, with his main rival appearing to be Mohs who is 3rd. Loddo won the battle for 4th with Galdos and Brea (Mercedes)
