When talking about the best riders of the season, he definitely belongs in my opinion. The merits of how he achieved his results is another discussion...
Overall, I wanted to put a lot of riders on the list to give people options. |

Contador. If he loses the Tour because of his positive, then Gilbert, with Nibali being a close 2nd, and Spartacus a close 3rd.
Edit: Also, I find it kind of weird to have Greipel and not Freire there.

For me Cancellara on one, although Nibali comes close. Third i would say Contador.

I mostly had Greipel there because he led the peloton in wins.
I admit I probably overlooked Freire. However, due to injuries etc, I feel, other than Paris-Tours, he has been pretty anonymous in the second part of the season.

100% agree. Hope he keeps up his attacking style. |

Keep up his attacking style? He's always had an attacking style.
I frickin' hate this sad mad fad-created notion that Cadel does not attack. He does. Hence why he wins things occasionally. You don't win by not attacking (unless you can sprint...)

Whenever people quote that ridiculous notion that Evans never attacks, I like to remind them that Sastre used to have that exact same reputation, despite also doing little to deserve it.
Oddly, few seem to pick on Leecheimer or Pozzato who wouldn't know an attack from a hole in the wall.

I'm not trying to slight him with that comment. I personally feel Evans has been a much more aggressive rider the past 18 or so months. |

Yes, I know Greipel won a lot of races. But just compare Greipel's wins with Freire's. There's a giant difference.
That's not to say that Gripel shouldn't be there, but it always surprises me how much Freire is (not just by you) overlooked, as if he wasn't one of the better riders of the last decade. |

Freire had a very crappy season by his standards.
Still, even with the constant health issues, Freire's 2010 > Any other sprinter's 2010

I have to go with Purito on this one. He have been very consistent and gotten good results all season.
But i would go with Evans as a runner up.

Nibali then Cance and Gilbert.
Gilbert just didn't win enough to get top spot

For me it's Gilbert. Wonderful season, and even though he didn't win the Worlds, he tried his best to do it. Great riding in every race, smart attacks, especially in the Cauberg, and provided great excitement in the Vuelta.
To complete the Rider of the Year podium, Cancellara would come in second and Nibali in third. |
