Hansen was the first of the days favourites, he made a very quick start leading at the first and second Check Points and looked good for the win....
Brett Lancaster was the second of the favourites away but at the first check-point he was way down in 8th.
Evans was the next big name out and placed 2nd and 4th at each check point respectively. Evans then Blistered through the last section to take the lead.
Last Man Charge
Rogers was the only man left to beat Cadel evans, he set a moderate pace through the first two Check-points but went flat out in the closing kilometers to win the Australian TT Champs.
So Rogers took the win and takes The jersey, hansen finished in 16th despite finishing top overall at check points 1 and 2 but as a whole im pleased. |

The Australian Road race can be un-predictable due to poor early season fitness, but on paper there are three out-right favourites; Rogers, O'Grady and Evans. But watch out for Cooke and Lancaster.
after 12 km the first breakaway formed, it contained 5 riders with the biggest names being A.davis (Ast), Sutton (Sky) and Hansen from Sony.
At just under 100km to go C.Meyer joined the breakaway, he also brought along Dempster (Rapha-Condor). Mean while Fly v Australia and High road Columbia are relaying to bring the 6m29s gap.
60km to go and Evans made an earlyy attack on the downhill section and put a mintue on the peloton, next stop the main breakaway over 3mins away.
20km to go and with the peleton breaking up, Evans had a lead of 1m34s over nearest chaser Simon Gerrans (Sky). Hansen is sitting with O'grady and A.Davis in the second chasing group.
Could Anyone catch Evans.....
NO. The world champion is now national champion. Gerrans (Sky) beat O'Grady (Saxo-Bank) in the sprint 30s down on Evans while hansen finished 6th.
Results:
1) Cadel Evans (Sony)
2) Gerrans (Sky) +30s
3) O'Grady (Saxo-bank) s.t
4) A.Davis (Astana) +1m59s
5) Rogers (High Road Columbia) s.t
6) Hansen (Sony) +2m14s.
Sorry Edexcel wasnt working.

Stage 2 is set to be a mass sprint but after yesterdays breakaway surving to the end the peleton will be wide awake and will hope to draw the peleton in earlier and with more easy.
Maxim Iglinskiy and Maarten Tjallingii were able to get a decent gap early on but their was a chase on in the second group.
However 3km later and a group of 12 were formed, the biggest name their was Maxim Iglinksiy but Tjallingii was also still there. They had 2m34s over the chasing pack lead by Vacansoleil.
with the other escapees caught Tjallingii tried one more attack.....
The Sprint trains began and Rabobank were the best leading Graeme Brown into a perfect position but Vaitkus, Boonen and Pozzato Were following his wheel. With no team mates near the front Bennati decided to follow Suttons (Sky) Lead out train. The sprint was on.....
Pozzato was the quickest with bennati just half a bike length down followed by Boonen.

Tourn Down Under Stage three-
Stage 3 looks to be a mass sprint once more with the main favourites still being Pozzato, Boonen and Bennati.
Matthews went into an early breakaway, however his legs deserted him and the group dropped him quickly.
Igor Anton (Euskatel-Euskadi) Was doing a solo effort on the front of the breakaway but with 25km to go and just a 1m9s lead it looked good for a sprint finnish.
5km to go and Bennati found Gavazzi's (Lampre) wheel, Boonen (Quick step) was coming fast with Matt Goss (High Road Columbia).
The sprint Began as Bennati dissolved way back into the peleton and a charging Boonen through his bike over the line to win....
