So I'm like owning the Tour Down Under with a Roulston-Goss-Howard-Cavendish sprint train, but then the weird things started happening.
1st stage was ok, Steegmans, Chicchi and Weylandt being my only decent opposition. But, on 2nd stage, After Howard started loosing his speed, I've launched Cavendish with 1.2km to go. And then he just stopped.
His rider info is displaying that he has gained speed of almost 65km/h but is rapidly loosing to riders who maxed out on 53-54km/h. He never moves past Howard who finishes 10th or something, but the game says that Cav has a speed of around 60km/h on the finish line.
3rd stage was ok too, but on 4th stage things started to go crazy again. Again the lead-out was perfect, I launched Cav with 0.8km to go, he is 2 bike lengths ahead of Steegmans.
0.3 km to go I press the V button for the victory celebration and a nice newspaper picture, and he again freezes immediately, although the game says he's still cruising above 55km/h. He gets passed by Steegmans and Weylandt.
So, it was two bike lengths with 0.3km to go, and in the end he barely finished 3rd.
And of course, me being a real genius, no screenshots were taken due to the frustration and disbelief. What in the hell's name was that?

If offense is the best defence, does it mean that defence is the worst defence?

It's a bug from patch 1.0.4. It's normal that this things happen... with patch 1.0.3 Cav will gradually slow down his speed, now, with patch 1.0.4 some sprinters get passed by others when they are crossing the line... it's just a bug that will display the same result but in a different shape. If you had patch 1.0.3 Cav would also finish 3rd in the last lap... |

I also had a very strange result in 14th stage of the Giro.
Di Gregorio was early breakaway.
Quite in the beginning of the mountain I put Vandevelde on 65% and "dot" Martin was protecting him.
HE was in the front of the big group. More and more riders felt back and I had a good pulse so I did 75% and came a bit out of the field and just the strongest riders were following. The group was reduced to 20-30 rider. Still a good pulse and a strong Martin I put VV ton 85% and he created a gap to the group and just Ricco and Cunego came a few seconds after me. Ricco overtook me and I felt back to Cunego.
On the descent we caught Ricco and lost Martin
But strange thin was that other strong riders like Nibali, Bruseghin and Garzelli who showed a great shape before or Zubeldia, Basso, Scarponi... didn`t follow. So we had 7min on the top and still 4.30min in the finish.
My goals are now Top 3 and I am the best TT of us 3. Without these stage I would have had problems to beat Nibali, Basso, Bruseghin or Zubeldia as they seemed to have a good shape.

I've had similar things happen on that stage. Playing as Androni, I sent my team to the front to set a high pace for Scarponi, and soon found almost my entire team (with Scarponi) minutes ahead of the peloton. No one chased and 5 members of my team finished before anyone else. |

im having this kind of problem every time i play this stage:
in some other thread i described it a few months ago:
i just had a pretty unrealistic(?) result on the giro stage to asolo over the bassano del grappa (playing the whole giro with rabobank on normal)
some group (abt 10 riders) was going right away from the start with riders like fothen or zaug, thier advantage reached up to 6 mins but got a reduced by the peleton till the start of the climb...
so far so realistic
the peloton was still pretty big at the feet of the del grappa, so i decided to attack with gesink (who lost time due to a fall on the previous stage now beeing on place 7. 3:30 behind cunego) and took menchov with me (lying on place 4. in the classment 1:30 behind). gotta say both were in good shape (gesink +5 menchov +2).. anyways proceeding uphill they created a huge gap btw them and the rest of the favourites (gesink making the pace) eventhough both of them were obviously really dangerous for the rest of the classment riders, whoall stayed together letting loosli (moutain 68(?)) make the pace all the way uphill. cunego was attacking maybe around 2 km away from the top of the mountain not creating a big gap... were gesink and menschov already were over 7 mins(!) infront of the rest! the gap stayed nearly the same (maybe the still big favourite group could reduce it a little..) till the finish....
similar experiences whenever i was playing it again sometimes a few favarites were following but the most just didnt react!! i dont know why..

The Giro stage 14 eh?
So that's a common thing? I scored 5 minutes with an attack at the foot of the mountain on Scarponi with a Footon rider with 73 MO on the second patch while the BotD won with another five minutes.

yes just let some of your team mates with climbing states around 75 make the pace nobody will follow you!

I also had this issue, although despite gaining 5 minutes on the climb, I was pulled back due to some insane descending from Boom

Well Cunego and Ricco were following unfortunately. They sprint up all mountains like Rasmussen vs Contador. So I am stiull 3rd with 4min back now and 3min in front of Nibali. Hope I can stay there because Vandevelde just loses some stats the 2nd time this season. Just 76 in mountain now and 3 mountain stages still to go. |

I also have the same results with this climb. I think it is the narrow road which causes the problem (try this tactic at the bottom of the mortirolo). It makes the AI go funny and not relay correctly so anyone who is off the front can make huge gaps ! |

Nice happy end for me. After Vandevelde was set to 76 in mountain he lost about 1 min on every of the 3 last mountain stages to Nibali.
So the last stage ITT he was just 6 seconds in front of Nibali.
Vandevelde won the TT 1 sec in front of Nibali
1. Cunego
2. Ricco +2,36
3. Vandevelde +7,12
4. Nibali +7,19
So the last race as real GC captain he had a nice result.

in my opinion that is a bug in case its not due to the narrow street (which would still suck). i mean if i want good results in an easy way then i can play on the lowest difficulty...
maybe smth isnt correctly classified in the db? dont know much abt this but maybe someone can take a look into it

It could be to do with the fact that the climb ends a long way before the finish, and the AI leaders arent programmed to make such early attacks
