so after my last post and all you help ive managed to get the hang of some stages/races. Mostly the totally flat stages with sprints at the end! But whwre im struggling is where the stage is supposedly flat but have a few hills/mountains in them. So what i was hoping for were a few tips on how to win these stages or even get some time on other riders. Also what types of riders should i be concentrating on to win these stages?
Thanks in advnce |

If it`s a flat stage with some hills, which can be climbed by sprinters, then I would let your riders ride in the front. The non steeper hills, where the heart rate jumps too high, go on the "dot" with maybe 65-75%. Your sprinter might ride slowlier than the peloton but his heart rate is still ok. Just make sure that he is not falling out of the peloton. On the top of the hill, you can ride to the front again with him on the descent. So your sprinter will be able to sprint without losing to much energy on the hills.

In addition, make sure your sprinter is being protected by a teammate. |

Ok thanks for the replies guys but im still not quite understanding it Ive been try to get the hang of it but it seems all my riders are dead well before the end of the satge. ive taken a screenshot to show an example, where it was a mass sprint with pretty much every rider bar mine in it.
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Ive tried keeping my heart rate down below the yellow but i eiether still either out of gas or i get blown away and cannot bring my riders back to the peloton! |

I suspect you're not refilling their water bottles? |

Agree. Even after a GT the green bar shouldn`t be that empty. Must be the water bottles.
Circa every 50km you have to send a guy bringing bottles from behind.
So choose a weaker rider and click the water button. The 5th button on the bottom. Next to pace. Then he will fall back and take bottles for everyone. He rides to the front to give them their bottles. So it`s senseful that the helper is sent on a flat or descent area. There is no sense to send a 60 mountain guy 5km in front of a hard mountain. He would fall back get bottles but never reach your captains again
After both bottles are empty you can ride still 10-15 km. Then their window will start blinking blue. Last chance to get bottles. Otherwise it will change to red and your riders lose lots of energy.
40-50km before the finish line you should get bottles the last time. After 20km you can`t get them, but it`s enough to click the button in 20,1km.
EDIT: If you can handle totally flat stages, then you probably know about the water system. Maybe the guy you send for the bottles is to weak to climb the hills on these stages. So your captains lose energy because they have nothing to drink.

Usually if you want to follow someone you will need to be a better sprinter than the rider you are trying to follow or close. Also make sure that they are all set to similar effort levels otherwise they may not follow.
Usually you can get a nice solid train if you organize it right, usually my lead out man will be set to follow my big powerhouse flat rider, with the sprinter set to follow the lead out man.
decent flat rider --- good flat rider --- good flat rider --- best flat rider --- lead out man(2nd best sprinter) --- sprinter
The decent, and good flat riders i will use to set a pace around 90-99 depending on there talent level and use them to keep my train at the front or even push out if its under 10km, at about 4.5-5km it is time for my big flat rider (77+ on flat) to go 99 effort, usually if he is in good form he will pull my guys up to 3km to go and then i let my lead out man do his job and sprint between 2.5-3km and then at 1.5-1.8km i let my sprinter finish the job.
For the most part i can get a train going, sometimes things happen and it falls apart, the hardest part is the initial organization at 11.0 - 11.9km where i try to get it in the correct order, and if that does not go smoothly then usually i will end up just relying on my lead out man to try and set my sprinter up. Also, sometimes the other sprinters can jack up your train like in real life, if a better sprinter grabs the wheel of my big flat rider or my lead out man, sometimes my sprinter gets caught out.
Also at about 13km, you can start forming your train slightly early by getting them in a relay order at the front of the field, it will use up a little energy but can help you get it ready so it is easier getting your follow rider orders in quicker.
I know this is not the clearest, maybe a few others can elaborate or you can ask more questions if anything is unclear. |

usually, i will set the first guy at like 85 effort, second at 90 effort then the rest of the train at 99 effort. I have never had any issues with Cancellara following riders...so thats a bit wierd..although do not try to have him follow other trains/sprinters from other teams...
I would set up something like this..
saxo 1 --- saxo 2 --- Cancellara --- lead out man --- sprinter
Saxo 1 and 2 should be flat riders (72-77 talent)
Although be careful with Cancellara, especially if you are using the pcm daily database, your lead out man and sprinter will need to be in great form to follow him if he is in great form...i have seen Cancellara eat up my own sprinters red bars if i am not careful with when let him loose.
Also in this game, form is very important when it comes to doing anything...so maybe cancellara's form is off so he cannot really help as much as you would like him too especially if its early in the season. |
