Tbh, he still hasn't proven himself worthy of 80 for me. With all due respect, the competition in this year's Vuelta isn't what it has been before. I mean this in the sense that, if Anton deserves 80, then guys like Tondo, Bruseghin, Urán, Velits definitely deserve and upgrade, to be able to even remotely compete with him.
However, if he continues to prove himself is the definite best climber this year, and puts a lot of minutes into those guys, then I'll comply.
Edit: Just read in the Vuelta thread you gave him 81, but anyway...

You guys really are bad at understanding cycling, at all.
Anton is apart from Contador and Andy Schleck the best climber in the world and you don't even see it
He beats Mosquera today.
Mosquera, who last year finished in front of Valverde, Gesink, Basso, Samuel Sanchez in nearly ALL mountain stages.
Add the total climbing time of the Vuelta 2009 and Mosquera was the best climber, better than Basso, Valverde, Sanchez, Valverde, EVans, Gesink etc...
Anton is even better than that. Anton was better than Contador uphill in Castilla y Leon (and also Soler, Mosquera there, Menchov/Brajko at +1.30)

Anton hasn't proven to be better than Mosquera last year. For that he'd have to had beaten him last year. I know Anton have been very competitive even against Contador throughout this year. But for him to rank amongst the best he, imo, has to be competitive against Contador, where they are equally motivated (which in Contador's case would be the Tour). Brajkovic was climbing as well as Conta in Dauphine, but he wouldn't come close to his rating (and rightly so).
Edit: I wasn't even disagreeing with you on his rating in the first place, because I can clearly see why you've rated him like that. We merely differ slightly in opinion on how to rate riders.

Anton was recovering from injury in 2009.
After the heavy fall in 2008 in the Vuelta (where he was also with Contador and Mosquera as the best climber up until his fall), he completely screwed 2009 because he needed to regain strength.
This year he is back at the level where he left in 2008. It says enough he already won vuelta MTF stages before that (and romandie too).
Now we finally see what he can do and what I FELT he could do.
Yes it was based on feeling but anyone with a good eye could spot a mile away that Anton is a top climber. Simply one of the best 3. |

You know what? I'm glad Antón is Basque. Had he been Dutch, then I don't know how far would have arrived ruben to get all people to recognise he was right. |

Also, I knew I should've gone with my feeling and give Mosquera some higher stats |

Ok.Probably you are right. But why you should start a thread about this?I'm sure that you are not the only guy from this forum who make a good prediction about a rider/team/tour..
..And I think that you are not so sure about Anton when he's dropped by Nibali,Rodriguez and Mosquera.

The DB I gave Mike had higher stats. If you didn't lower them, someone did.

Anton is good, there is no question. But before we say that he is the superclimber, we should see how he is doing for example in the Tour. Winning the Vuelta is one thing (he hasn't won it yet), and we could say a great win, but winning the Tour, against the purely bests is another. It's much harder exspecially when there are Contador, Andy, Menchov (and not after a GT), etc... |

Of course Anton is a good climber, but I think you're making too big a deal out of todays stage. Like others said earlier: the competition wasn't that great and the best riders around in Vuelta aren't in good shape. Saying Anton is a top 3 in the world climber today, is the same thing as saying Brajkovic is just as good as Contador after the Dauphine or saying Gesink is way better than Andy & Frank after the Suisse mountain stage. Besides all this I think it was most of all Antons great tactic (maybe great knowledge of the terrain) that made him come out on top today. |

You guys remind me of the gaggle of british fans flailing around for an excuse every time Greipel wins something
"The competition wasn't great!".
Next year it'll be some other excuse.

Greipel, for me, is a more complete rider than Cav, but not a better Sprinter. That's me being honest, and I'm British. |
