Well ive been reading this forum all week since getting PCM. But im still struggling like hell to get the concepts of the racing and winning etc. I get the whole management part of the game with the staff and scouting etc Its just every time i come to a race day i want to cry lol. Soo If anyone could be kind enough to give me a few tips on anything, whether its to us 3d race or adv. sim or any ideas no how to perform on race day in 3d races.
If you're new to the game, i suggest u start with a good team, so you can learn how to win races easily.
Before advancing to 3D races, it's best to check the terrain and what riders are good at it. After that, you should check their fitness. A rider with 90 fitness and 75 in climbing, will climb better then one with 70 fitness and 78 climbing. You chose the best riders, in your opinion, for that race, and you advance to the 3D race part.
Choosing material isn't important, as the material stats do not have influence on the rider stats.
Now in the 3D race part. It might be smart to protect your team captain. It's easy to figure which rider's your captain (based on fitness and stats).
You might send a rider with the early breakaway (you never know if they might make it all the way ).
Now, if you're riding a hilly or mountain stage, you'd better wait for the other favourites to attack and then counter (you can see the favourites in the loading screen). If you have the best team, you might aswell set some of your teammates to relay on 80-90% to take the breakaway back. You just have to see for yourself how your team captain loses the least energy, and when is the best moment to attack. If he has high acceleration and sprinting stats, you could also await the sprint.
If you're riding a flat stage, protect your best sprinter and perhaps also your 2nd best sprinter (the lead-out man). If you have the best sprinter, you'll probably have to control the race and don't let the breakaway go to far.
Now, starting from 12km to the finish, you can build a train. You need a rider with a good flat stat and you let your lead out man follow him. Then you let your sprinter follow your lead out. You have to choose the right moment to go on 99% (with the dot) with the rider that's good on the flat. Then at 3 - 2 km from the finish, you can let your leadout start sprinting. Depending on how fast the other sprinters are coming you should let your best sprinter start sprinting from about 2-1km from the finish.
Instead of building your own train, you can also let your best sprinter follow one of the other good sprinters, and follow their train. This is a good tactic if you don't have much other sprinters, so no lead out.
This is how i win my races, hope it'll do the same to you
Thanks for the awesome reply mate really will help! But if i can pick you brain quickly, what effort do you generally use at the start of the race? as my rider seem to run out of steam towards the end of the race!
At the beginning of the race all riders start with the "keep position" command and as long as you don't change the command the effort does not matter.
Generally you have to look at the pulse of a rider. If it gets to high, then he will lose yellow energy.
Make sure that your riders are fit so that the can ride faster withouth getting a high pulse.
When the "group" is going up a hill/moutain, your riders will often loose a ton of energy if they are set to "stay with group" (unless the group is going real slow or your rider has a really high hill/moutain stat and fitness). If that happens you'll need to switch everyone over to the Dot option, instead of "Stay with Group", they'll loose a lot less energy that way. You'll have to figure out what effort each rider requires to essentially stay with the group without exceeding the group's pace nor falling behind the group. It can get a little tedious at times, but that's part of the 3D "experience". Although I bug in my opinion, its been like this in all versions.

I would say in PCM10, because in PCM09 you didn't loose that much effort by relaying and so on.

I didn't own PCM2009, but it was that way in PCM08.
