Welcome to Gent-Weglem the first of the three back to back cobbled races, this is where the cobbles truly kick off for the season and expect performances from the best riders in the world

The main favourites for today are defending champion Cancellara and 2 time winner Boonen, however expect Ballan Burghardt, Nuyens and Maes to act as spoilers, other possibel winners are Nolf, Devolder Franzoi and Baugnies

Off we go, the weathers nice

Carmeuse are nervous today and with 80km to go they still haven't let a break go

We hit the Monteberg with all 164 riders still together

Over the top and all 8 Carmeuse riders have gone clear, with no one else for company

Up the Kemmelberg it's all together again

Up the Kemmelberg for the second time and Baugines, Ballan and Nuyens have ridden off the front

The Carmeuse chase causes a split, only 20 riders left, the gap to the leaders is still 45 seconds

and now there are just eight: Cancellara, Jacobs, Fenn and Lhotellerie, Maes, Brghardt, Boonen and Flecha, still they can't close the gap though and the finish is now less than 30km away

With the gap refusing to fall Cancellara attacks

All his attack does is shed his teammates and Flecha though, not really worth it as the gap is still 30 seconds

Amazingly the chasers stop working and allow Flecha, Fenn and Jacobs back, as the leaders now have a minute on them

Nolf manages to get to the Boonen group, the gap was once over two minutes

Finally realising that victory is escaping them Cancellara, Boonen and Burghardt attack

Under ten km to go, our leaders are still working well together, the podium seems all but guaranteed.

What's this? Boonen and Burghardt have made it up to them, what an effort! That minute gap just disappeared!!

Having saved some energy recently, Ballan decides to see if he can go solo

Cancellara sprints past Boone, he now has Ballan in his sights

1km left and Ballan's advantage is falling, but not quickly enough

Boonen sticks in Cacellara's wheel for third behind the Swiss champ,

And Veelers wins our first bunch sprint for 10th ahead of Summerhill
